DIY gem found! And a Nightmare Before Christmas
Not sure if I placed in the correct category.
I’m always on the look out for items I can repurpose for any hamster I’ve had’s Enjoyment and of course add to the aesthetic of the habitat and today, totally by accident, I found this gem at dollar tree [
It had a black wire hanger attached that I removed and now it is the perfect holiday hidey for TayTay!
This find gave the idea of having her habitat be nightmare before Christmas-ish themed. I want to continue to find holiday items I can safely repurpose so her habitat is like where Jack, in the movie, finds himself in the forest and there are all those doors to the different holidays.

Re: DIY gem found! And a Nightmare Before Christmas
Have you done it before, to change things in your hamster's cage i mean? Is Tay Tay happy with it?
I'm only wondering because some hamsters don't like things getting moved or changed in their cages once they have the set up they like.
I've done that once and my hamster threw a right old tantrum so had to put things back the way they were.
I like your Halloween find. Is it glass?

She has yet to not like something I’ve placed in her cage. Of course if she didn’t like something I’d remove it. She doesn’t care for sand baths so I removed that.
My find is indeed glass and thank you!

It's great I find hammies usually like something new being added but tend not to be too keen on everything being rearranged.

Oh if I had rearranged her cage I would’ve had one unhappy and stressed hammy

She's moved in already! Tay Tay is so cute!
I also like non hamstery things that can be used for hamsters. My dwarf has a ceramic toad stool as a "dining room" which is really a bird feeder.
I'd love to see a photo of your set up.

It’s not really much to look at yet. While I’ve had dwarf hamster for 12 years I never tried making a bin cage! I work at a discount store so I’m hoping we get more holiday decor that can be repurposed as something for my TayTay.
I almost bought a mug in the store I work at but I’m debating whether or not it would be worth it or what purpose it would serve.
She’s absolutely obsessed with these:
I found it at the store I work at and it was only a dollar so I figured why not see if we can use this as hamster hidey. I put it her habitat and then went to work and when I came back she moved her entire nest inside! I got her another smaller one in a different color to give her some variety

Since owning hamsters for a while I go around stores differently.
I walk around and think "ohhhh that would be loved by this hamster"
While looking at candle holders ect.

The target dollar section has very similar items! They're ceramic ghosts, witches, cats, and pumpkins! I bought my hamster a ghost and a cat and he absolutely loves them! They're very similar in size to similar ceramic hides you can get at pet stores, but were only $3 a piece!
