My DIY Hides and Stuff
Since I just joined this forum, I thought I'd share some hides and things I've made for my hamsters in the past couple years!
This one is a favorite of mine, and also Wirt's (now deceased) very favorite hide. No matter where in the cage I placed it, he would always use it for his nest! He wasn't much a of a chewer, so this house is still in good condition and has been passed down my new hamster, Enoki.
This one was a lot of fun to make, and was made to use in a christmas themed set-up for Wirt a couple years ago. I think I threw it away when I changed the cage back to normal.
These are two paper mache donut hides I made using ErinsAnimals' youtube tutorial! The big one was for Wirt, and the little one for my dwarf, Miko. These got shredded up very quickly but were well-loved by both hamsters while they lasted
This one was made for and is currently in use by Miko! He doesn't nest in it, but he pops in and out of it quite often and sometimes connects it to his underground tunnel systems. I love the look of this one as well
Lastly, here's one I just finished making today! I made it using the packaging tube of Tiny Friends Farm bathing sand. It's for Enoki, since she seems a little confused about where to nest. I was hoping this would be a good option for her and maybe help her feel more secure since these are only her first days in her new home.

That is one cute hamster in your avatar. Who is it?
Really like your handmade creations. Maybe cutting the bottom out of the hide made from a tiny friends tube might encourage your hamster to nest in it.

Re: My DIY Hides and Stuff
I especially like the paper mache hides which have given me some good ideas. Did you use a special glue? I wonder if a flour and water mix would work? It's so true that part of a healthy hamsters behaviour involves chewing things into tiny pieces (each one a nibbled crescent I've noticed) and it is a happy process for all concerned. Let us not be precious with objects above the pricelessness of innocent lives.

Thank you, that's Enoki! I just got her on Wednesday, but I am deeply in love with her already ♥
Thanks for the tip as well! She has two bottomless hides already, so I made it to try offer another type of option since she didn't seem to want to settle in the other two, and was sleeping in the cage corners and under the wheel, but I think yesterday she finally picked a hide to start nesting in.

Re: My DIY Hides and Stuff
I'd love to hear about how you created those brilliant hides and or the flour and water glue (?) recipe. Also how do you construct or mould them into shape etc? You're an inspiration. Thank you from my ham too.

The glue is one part flour to two parts water. The donut tutorial is on Erinsanimals youtube channel. The others are pretty straight forward.

Jolin answered quickly, but yes I used ErinsAnimals tutorial to make the donuts! https://youtu.be/MwT7leGn5Ok
the other hides were all made using cardboard and popsicle sticks, and the last one with a Tiny Friends Farm bath sand tube
