My First Bin Cage!!

I've had Pebbles for just under a month now, and after hours of hard work (cutting through/drilling the thick plastic was a lot more challenging than I initially though) and getting some minor scrapes from the wire mesh, It's finally done! In the cage so far she has her silent spinner wheel, water bottle (attached with velcro to the side), some Crittertrail tubes, her log house, and some chew toys.

She's been more active and has eaten more since I moved her into this larger cage and I'm so happy and it was so worth it.

For those of you who are considering making a bin cage or are on the fence about it, I'd say definitely go for it!

This style of cage makes spotcleaning and cleaning in general easier as well.

Very nice and a great results for the first time doing a DIY Bin.
You may find the window cut a bit too low but if it is you can reattach some of the cut out piece and zip strip it back on so the bedding can be kept deeper without it falling out the mesh.

Well done! Cutting through all that plastic is a job I never really fancied & I admire all the people who make the effort!
I agree with Nancy though that the substrate needs to be a lot deeper, I doubt it would fall through fine mesh so you may not even need to block it off at all.
It does look a little bare so maybe put something like a little cardboard box with no base & a door cut into one side for a house?
A sand bath would be really good & is important to help keep their coats & skin in good condition.
Small things like egg boxes with a couple of holes make good toys/hideouts for them & you could also have a go at some toys made with toilet roll tubes.

That's a great bin, I certainly wouldn't have enough patience - I'll just stick with my Maxi Duna

I agree with Cypher, it does look a bit bare and substrate should be deeper but that can be easily fixed

The sand bath/potty could be the blue pot in the front right hand corner.

A house/box and a cube with holes would be a nice addition and use up some of the empty space.

It looks lovely! You could always just put a piece of cardboard along the front for deeper substrate, but as Cypher says it's not likely to fall out through the fine mesh and looks well piled up in the middle and at the back. But if you did fancy putting 20cm deep substrate in or more, you might find your hammy digging tunnels

The little blue Critterbath in the corner is actually where I put her bath sand! She loves rolling around in it. And I realized I cut the plastic too low at the bottom but it was too late by then but luckily the bedding doesn't seem to go through the fine mesh so I added some more as well!

Good ideas with the egg cartons, boxes etc I think I'll work on making some tonight!
