Self-standing Food Patio :)
Using sturdy Cardboard, and Hobby Sticks, and a Hotglue gun:

5 x 11 cardboard platform
3.5 inch high self-supporting backing, using 0.5 inch for a edge.
Took less than an hour. Used under 5 glue-sticks. Required a strong pair of sissors (for flat hobby sticks, and cardboard).
Non-toxic glue sticks are from Home Depot.
If I put a wall with a entry door in front, it becomes a Hide-Away as well. How cool is that }
Purpose of this is to put his Food and Water above the substrate, keeping it clean and healthy; while at same time also providing exercise to get to it.
I am just curious how much he'll try to chew on it though? and just how long it might actually last. but I like having SOMETHING that keeps food out of the way of substrate, and he gains a little exercise to get to it,
as well as being in a better position for me to notice he's eating and/or drinking! Win-win all around!
Comments?

That's a nice idea and the joy of it being quick to put together is that you can try it for a bit to see how your hammy gets on & then make another differently if you want to swap your cage around! Yay for lolly sticks!

Another nice idea! You can make that as long or short as you need. To add to that idea, I also use colored lolly sticks for projects. I used yellow and green for a hammy swing. I bought a box with blue, green, yellow, and red and purple.

http://i.imgur.com/7kyoDdd.png As seen from inside a 90qt bin I have.
In case it is not clear, I actually now own two different hamsters. A Campell Russian Dwarf, and also a Roboroski. Both are doing very well.
Robo is getting this Food Patio, as my 1st hammy His Lordship Sir Bartholomew da 1st, Professor of Hamstery is using the one from his original Oxbow metal cage, which inspired me.

This way I can closely enjoy, and study the activities of both a Russian Cambell, and a Roborokski (each in their own private bins of course).

Re: Self-standing Food Patio :)
Great idea. I love having shelves in my robos habitats for that same reason.
