Re: *DANGER* Willow Stick Shelf
Thanks everyone.
Sofia is fine thankfully. About an hour after her ordeal she came out of her nest and seemed fine. She seemed more annoyed that her sand bath had gone and was unimpressed that she couldn't reach the bars on that side of the cage any more lol! She had a run on her wheel, climb up the bars, bit of a dig, something to eat and drink and then I left her be when she started her evening marathon on her wheel. She was walking and running as normal.
Tonight I'm going to be looking at all the hams toys, seeing what has gaps in it like that. Mylo has two bendy bridges but doesn't climb on them.
Just so scary when stuff like this happens I dread to think what would have happened if I hadn't gone in to see them all. I had only been in there two or three minutes before so I know that she wasn't there long.
She even came to say hi to me when she came out of her nest later on... Maybe she likes me a bit more now I've rescued her LOL.

Re: *DANGER* Willow Stick Shelf
Poor Sofia I'm so sorry that happened. I should check our wooden bendy bridge for gaps... Biscotti was climbing it earlier. Thankfully he'll be asleep until I'm home.

Re: *DANGER* Willow Stick Shelf
Aw I hope Sofia is OK. I remember coming across a DIY idea using willow sticks, nice to know how safe they are. Thank you for the warning and once again I hope your ham is okay.

Re: *DANGER* Willow Stick Shelf
Poor lickle hammy and how awful that must have been for you to find her that way
on a side note, those Knuff things... look awesome for making stuff with for our hammies!
Aside from the danger of the gaps yours looked wicked! maybe some modifications can make it safer and use-able?
Glad to hear Sofia is ok and hasn't broken anything x

Re: *DANGER* Willow Stick Shelf
See...This is why HC is so great. I would never have recognized the danger until something similar happened to one of my hams. Now, so many of us are looking at the ham toys and accessories with an eye toward preventing hurt to our furries. I am so glad Sophia is okay and thankful for your heads up. You are Sohpia's hero now.

Re: *DANGER* Willow Stick Shelf
You could fill gaps with a paste made by mixing sawdust with a non-toxic glue. I often use this method to make my own woodfiller for DIY jobs instead of buying a tub of commercial filler, which has inevitably dried out & gone hard the next time I need some. Work this into gaps between the willow sticks & when it dries & sets there will be nowhere for little legs to get stuck. Don't use commercial filler as it probably has nasty toxins in it!
