Hamster cage toys/accessories help
Hey, so ive gone and added another cage to my hamsters current cage but I want to make this part a lil more fun and interesting for him, ive already gone and made a hammock but I want to put some more things in there, so what kind of homemade toys/accessories can I make for that part of the cage?

Tubes! If your Syrian is anything like mine, you might need to look for maybe shipping tubes or the inner cores of wrapping paper tubes, as commercially-available tubes, and paper towel or toilet roll tubes have proven to be a VERY tight squeeze for both my girls.

Re: Hamster cage toys/accessories help
If you get a packet of walnuts in the shells, and then carefully open them up so that they come apart in two even halfs (get a knife and slid it through the weak joint holding the two halves together). Take out the nut and put to the side in a container (you can use bits of this later/give bits to the hamster over a period of time/or just eat them yourself). After you have done this with a number of walnuts, get a nail and hammer and 'drill/make' a hole in the middle of each piece shell then thread them onto a piece of string, then tie to the top of the cage so that it dangles in (Make sure thet the inside part of the shells are pointing up, you can then put bits of food/treats/some of the walnuts in the spaces and your hammie can have fun trying to get at them.

Re: Hamster cage toys/accessories help
Have you experimented with lolly sticks? I've made loads of pretty cool things with them, probably too many to actually be used aha but im a little addicted. My advice is to invest in a glue gun though if you dont already have one as it dries straight away. I also found some really cool table mats in Wilkinsons the other day, they were like thin pieces of wood kept together with thread, i just chopped them to size and hung them in the cages like hammocks, the hams seem pretty impressed. Whenever im out shopping im always thinking 'hmm what can i make for the hams out of this' aha
