Re: Hamster toys and accessories from recycled household items thread
Dusty wanted to show off her new "elderly ham" food bowl. She's started to struggle with her normal one so we swapped it out for a pringles lid and Dusty is very, very happy with the arrangement - a food bowl she can walk over! Whats not to like? lol

Re: Hamster toys and accessories from recycled household items thread
I'm not sure if this has already been suggested here, it definitely has been elsewhere on the forum. Today I decided to make treat tubes from toilet roll tubes.
1. Take one toilet roll tube and a selection of treats.
2. Fold in one end of the tube. It doesn't have to be too secure as hams will attempt to chew through the main tube rather than unfold it.
3. Put some treats in.
4. Fold up the other end of the tube.
5. To make it even more of a challenge, push your treat tube into another toilet roll. This way the hams can put their heads in either end and try to reach to chew, or work their way down the outer toilet roll tube first, or work through two layers of toilet roll tube!
It's as simple as that. I have given seven hamsters one each this evening, and they are all loving it!

This is cool! I'd seen a video on this somewhere, and forgotten all about it - now I'm reminded, and I'm gonna go search for toilet paper rolls. ^^

The first time you give a hammy a 'hidden' treat like the toilet tube roll one, it helps if you make a little hole in it with a pair of scissors or a knife to help the hamster smell what's inside it and get in it

Definitely going to try the toilet tube treat. I started collecting kitchen roll tubes for Flick about a year before I even got her and she's a bit too big to actually fit through them so she just chews the end a but and that's it. Got an giant box and didn't really know what to do with them!
