Default Are all plasti-kote products pet safe?

Hi, I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right part of the forum or not so sorry in advance if I'm not lol, but I got Jenson a 20cm karlie wonderland wheel the other day and I want to coat it with something to stop it rotting because he does pee in his wheel a lot. Before the karlie wheel he had an 8.5'' superpet comfort wheel but he wore the spindle down from excessive running lol and now it's too loud to be in my bedroom. I've been reading about plasti-kote sprays and I want a clear one but I'm unsure of which one to buy because there are so many lol

Thanks in advance

Yeah we get those ones. Have it in two shades of blue and a shade of green, plus emptied a yellow pot of it already lol
We've seen it in clear too, so you can definetly get it

Thanks for your replies I think it will be easier for me to get the brush on one rather than the spray can, so I'll probably go for one of those thanks

I like the brush on one, it stops the fuss of going outside with everything to avoid getting the whole room coated!

I got some clear plasti-kote (the spray one because my other half insisted it would be easier as he was the one doing it) and gave it one coat this morning. It's dry now and in his cage, but we have it a wipe down before we put it in. I think I'm going to give it another coating on Friday just to be sure it's all sealed, I don't think Jenson is too stuck on the smell though, he hasn't gone near it all night

Hi everyone. I have just joined the forum. I am about to get a hamster and I am currently getting the cage ready.

I have a lot of wooden platforms in my new cage, and I have heard a lot about people coating their wooden shelves in plastikote. I am very keen to do this and it does seem to work OK (at least I haven't read any bad reports about it).

HOWEVER, what I can't seem to find out, is....are you people using a primer first? My little knowledge of DIY tells me that you can't spray paint straight onto bare wood without using a primer. This is where the problem lies....the primers that plastikote make don't say "safe for children".

What are you peeps doing about it? Are you using a primer? If so, have any of you had any problems, or are you just spraying the enamel paint straight onto bare wood and hoping it doesn't peel off?

I would be so greatful for some advice and to hear of your experiences.

Thank you very much. Poppypod.

We put ours straight onto the wood and its been fine. We used the paint-on stuff rather than the spray, but as far as I know both are fine and work equally well.

we use the paint on ones (less fumes and smell means you don't have to leave it 2 - 3 days before use) and didn't use a primer, we've had no issues so far, but its best to give it 2 coats to ensure its coated
