Re: Guide to making Wodent Wheels run smoother and quieter.
Just out of curiosity, why did you decide to alter the holes on the front of the junior wheels? Is there a safety reason behind it? Or do you just prefer the "mouse" shaped holes?

Re: Guide to making Wodent Wheels run smoother and quieter.
It started with Lucy. Back when she was on normal diet, what seems like forever ago, she loved her large lab pellets. In particular she liked to play with them before eating by taking them into her Wodent Wheel and running, while her large pellet rolled along, making a terrible racket... On and on. I finally cut out the bottoms of the holes, all the way down to the track, so food would fall out quickly.
Then Dora would store a huge pile of grains in her wheel after cage cleanings, also making noise when running.
Basically it makes wheel washing MUCH easier without disassembly and helps hard food bits fall out quickly.

Ahhh, makes perfect sense. GiGi takes food into her wheel sometimes too. Luckily she usually doesn't keep it there for long though. But I will definitely have to keep this in mind in the future if she develops this habit. Thanks!

Re: Guide to making Wodent Wheels run smoother and quieter.
I recently bought Panda a wodent wheel and I hated it. It made a very, very loud knocking noise! It was so loud I couldn't even sleep, even when I had ear plugs in both ears, I still heard it! He now has a homemade 11" bucket wheel and it is so quiet!

Re: Guide to making Wodent Wheels run smoother and quieter.
I think my senior WW could benefit from this... It makes a squeaky grating noise that makes me want to stab something. Sanding down the axle helped a little bit, but not long term. It's currently banished to The Pile Of Things.
Has anyone else had success with this method since this thread was made? I think I need a bit more convincing that the extra layer isn't going to make the wheel too stiff to turn.

I have never had a Wodent Wheel before and have been thinking about getting one. Are they worth the money?

Wow really works great! It stops the banging noise from where it is too loose.
I have recently bought these wheels for my 4 hamsters and let me tell you when they all start going at night banging or squeeking it is impossible to get any sleep! This thread is literally a life saver!

Re: Guide to making Wodent Wheels run smoother and quieter.
I hope you won't be disappointed Shelly78. I did mine months ago, and I need to re-wrap it. It was SO quiet when I taped it.
I've been through some wheels, and I've really grown to like the Wodent Wheel. I have the 12", and I actually think my Syrian likes that one the best. It's not as quiet as the Carolina Storm wheel, or the Raptor wheel, but it has the largest diameter out of all, and I think my hamster likes the holes on the front.
