Default Hamster Maze

When I last visited P@H they had a toy maze for hamsters, I was going to buy it until I opened it up and saw loads of sharp rough corners and edges. So I am going to try and create my very own small one.

I just want to know what type of wood would be safe for hamsters and where is the best place to get them? Im not looking to spend a lot of cash, I just need a wooden base with wood around all 4 edges to make walls with a small gap in 1 side and then I will put more wood inside and link it up.

Which wood is safe and cheap for Hamsters?

Can't say I'd know what wood to use. But maybe you could make a prototype out corigated cardboard to see if they use it and "find out what they think of it" so to speak?
I bought the Pets a Home maze you mentioned and mine didn't really take to it. Wish I never bought it as they prefer the wooden climibing frame/ jungle gym more.

Ahh nice one! I forgot that I could make a starter one with cardboard and it'll be pretty cheap too!

Just need to find empty cardboard boxes and something to glue it down with.

PVA Glue would work for the card one.

Non toxic glue gun would work best for wood. I'm sure more experienced D.I.Yers would recomend different glues. I work with children and glue gun glue withstands 4-6 year olds very well so I'm sure it would work for the hammies. (If you can get hold of a glue gun that is.)

Do you think a Pritt Stick would work to glue it down?

I have a DIY cardboard maze which my Rhubes loves! He's a syrian. Its cheap and he's has a lot of fun in it. He goes in it every day. Basically it is a large cardboard box which I cut the flaps off and slotted them and cut doorways into some of the sides. He can climb up onto the top of the maze but the cardboard box itself is twice as high again so he can't escape.

Today i set up a little maze as such on my bed with my hamster, i used cardboard boxes with holes cut out a a pirate ship toy that i got him. He seemed to love jumping through the holes a lot, however he then took to climbing off my bed to be the better idea. I doubt i'll manage to make or buy any mazes which my hamster will love and be happy with no mater what in the end it comes to him deciding escaping is the best idea.
