Re: made a house and walk way
Ah, me is stupid xD Then it should be okay, but more is always better. Just remember that the next time you build a cage. Apart from that i do love the set-up and I'm sure your hammies do to!

Re: made a house and walk way
Oh no thank you for pointing it out i wouldn't want to put them at riskif i had of made glass or pvc door's i would of put window's in. I did have to put a door on the bottom cage as harvey escape's but it is wired even so i may ventilate the back or side's of it to be sure.

Re: made a house and walk way
I would definately have meshed doors on the front. This should have been your first design move really before the hamsters were moved in. The high frontage `might` be safe enough to keep them in, but all it takes is one hamster to move an accessory close enough to the edge to be able to scramble over the edge! The last thing you want is an escaped or injured hamster or worse, a cat sneaking in your window and taking advantage of what`s on offer. It can happen you know!
Very nice set up though and well done.

Re: made a house and walk way
I do, I woke up at 4am one morning not too long ago to my son telling me there was a cat not only in the house but had got in bed with him and i have an open C&C cage with 8 guinea pig's in it! lucky it only goes for gerbil's as my neighbour say's (who's cat it is), it also sleeps in bed with her son but can you imagine my son's face when he woke up lol,
I will make another door it wouldn't hurt and keep's me busy (tho having pig's with ringworm fungal and mite's isn't enough i am looking after my sister-in-laws 6 piggies too!)

Re: made a house and walk way
Oh dear, ringworm is a fungal nightmare (contageous to humans from pets aswell) but does go eventually with the right treatments. I caught ringworm from one of my mice a while back (no idea how she got it in the first place) and I had to get Daktakort cream from my GP!
I would definately be on guard if there is a neighbourhood cat prowling around. As for it going for gerbils, I hope whoevers gerbils they are keep the cat well away from them.
