I haven't heard this about hamsters, but I have heard this about other rodents. Chinchillas cannot have plywood due to the glue, but hamsters aren't as big of chewers.

Not to be cruel or anything...
But if it would be bad, all my hamsters would be ill/dead by this time now... since all of them met with my own made hamster stuff.

The glue is on water basis. And I also make sure, that there aren't any drops of glue visible/touchable, on which the hamster can bite.

But some new pictures of a big decoration. It is 98cm long... so actual for outside the cage:

3rd floor, with a little tower:

2nd floor:

And the 1st floor with labyrinth:

Another picture, now with the two boxes filled (with chinchilla sand and wood fiber):

(pictures are placed in the album too)
