Charley, Biscuit, I swear by Jo Verso's books. Get yourself a copy of Picture it in Cross Stitch. It will start you off. Teaches you everything you need to know. Her books enable you to make your own designs very easily. I have never done one from a kit.

These last two I did are from patterns in her books as I loved them so much. The baby one from Picture it in Cross-stitch 20 year anniversary. I bought the book again as it was revised. The alphabet one was from Jo Verso's Cross-stitch year.

You can pick her books up really cheaply on Amazon Marketplace.

I can't really say a price as I have a huge collection of threads & fabric that I bought in bulk ages ago. I use DMC stranded cotton & they cost around 85p a Skein. I would only recommend DMC or Anchor.

Thanks. Might have a look on amazon and maybe have a go at cross-stitching! xxx
