Default Meet Button

I got a new addition to the household a few days ago, little Button! I saw him while getting some stuff for my other ham Cupcake, and felt like I had to get him. He was the last of a litter of 4 hamsters, and pretty terrified of humans due to bad handling. I also didn't know he could jump straight up a good 3 - 4 inches in the air, he had an initial escape once I got him home. I was able to get him into a cup and back into his enclosure.

His bin is a mix of new things, and some Cupcake didn't like. In particular he loves the bendy bridge and timothy hay hide. He is SUPER talkative, always making little squeaks, chirps, and this one noise that's like half frog, half cricket. He's very timid, but I was able to get him to hop onto my hand once and take some treats, so hopefully given time he won't be so scared of my presence and come out more.

As for the pictures with nearly no bedding, I slowly removed it while I was trying to find him when he escaped on day 1. Had to make sure, he was tricky to find. Button made a little spot in the hallway closet, and I was able to scoop him up there. He was so tuckered out, he fell asleep in the corner pretty much right away. Now he has plenty of bedding, hides, and things to play with!

Welcome Button! He is so cute. From what I have seen of Chinese hamsters, they love to climb and can use their tail to help them. Victoria Racheal has a Chinese hamster and he is very shy.

I thought you were going to name him Cotton.

Hello Button!
What a lovely and vey lucky little boy. I'm so much looking forward to learn more about this cutie.
I didn't know that chinese hamsters can jump up but didn't know this about Robos either, until our first Robo showed me how it's done.
Great set up too.

I was going to get a camera for Cupcake, but now that she's starting to come out again it will go to Button! He's still pretty timid, but did seem to enjoy me sitting next to his bin and chatting with him. Hope to have some footage and see what he's up to overnight

Same here. It's so exciting to have a chinese hamster with his own thread on the forum.

I got a super rare picture of him out tonight, he is still very timid and shy. Tried slowly handing him a treat, he flinched back in fear pretty badly. Button might take a good while to tame, but he is at least healthy and talkative as ever. He did enjoy me sitting next to his bin and talking again. Here's hoping in another week or two he won't be so scared of coming out, that's my main goal. He absolutely loves his bendy bridge.

That was lucky to get a photo of Button so early on.
Bin is looking lovely. How do you put the meshed lid on with the wheel above the edge?

I cut out a section of the lid it came with around the wheel, then added a mesh rectangle over it. Its like having a little box of mesh on top of it.

He is such a cutie cloudy, I wish my phone camera recorded his vocalizations well enough to hear them on video. He's so talkative, and has such a vocabulary for a hamster
