Re: Meet Button
I would so love to hear Button talking. Maybe when you get a camera you could put it in Buttons cage and it will pick up his noises.

Re: Meet Button
He was pretty peeved last night, I tried to give him a treat with little success at first. Eventually he took one if I set it in front of him and slowly pulled my hand away.
At least I've learned one of his angry vocalizations. It's part click like any other hamster does, but with some squeak mixed in. I'm just hoping he gets comfortable to the point he's not scared of my presence. It feels like he doesn't come out much at all, hopefully the camera will answer that.
He is an adorable little guy though, when he's sitting he looks as small as my thumb

Re: Meet Button
He really sounds tiny!
I have always read not to interact with hamsters for 2 weeks. I do not know if this is what other people do.

Re: Meet Button
I've heard so many different suggestions on that one, but giving them extra time never seems like a bad idea. It seems to depend on the hamster too. Pearl already seemed to like me at first sniff, and interacted right away. Button is the opposite.

Re: Meet Button
I know you and Pearl had the most amazing bond. It does seem they are all different.

Re: Meet Button
How long you have to wait to start socializing completely depends on the individual hamster. I know there can be a bit of a stereotype with hamsters from pet stores being less confident but that's not always true. Some just take a few days to settle in, others can even take weeks or months. There are also some unusual hamsters that do very well being interacted with right away!

Re: Meet Button
Button is coming out a little bit while I'm up. He's still very timid, and makes his snack runs as quick as possible. The camera finally arrived today, I'm very curious to see how comfortable he is in the enclosure while I'm asleep.

Re: Meet Button
Beyond any doubt, the bendy bridge is his favorite. He's built it up like a nest, his little home away from home on the surface!
