Default Tinkerbell [Pictures!]

I wanted to show everyone my 2 year old Dom Spot girly, Tinkerbell. She's my special ham because she's both the oldest hamster I currently own and she was the last Chinese Hamster I ever saw for sale in a pet store! <3 She is also the reason I want to start Showing Chinese Hamsters, because I love her lots and don't want to be without a Chinesey.

She is just such a cute Ham that I wanted to show her off to everyone <3

She's a beautiful girl.

Chineseys are pretty addictive aren't they?

Thank you! They are definitely very addictive! I had 3 when I was younger, but moved to owning Syrians and now I just want a whole bedroom filled with Chinese Hamsters xD Too bad there aren't many around anymore. We need a Chinese Hamster Preservation Society, lol.

I dunno what it is about them, I can't hold my little Tinkerbell or pet her, but she is just so adorable, I watch her for ages running on her wheel or jumping on and off her Toilet Paper tubies.

She even looks adorable in her carrier <3

They have a tendency to look absolutely adorable however they decide to pose or sit. Jessie, my pet shop girl, is a master at looking cute particularly when she's been a pickle and done something silly like trying to flood her cage or burying her wheel.

Hopefully you'll be able to source a nice Chinesey through a breeder at some point. There's not always any on the sales tables at the shows but you'll be able to chat to some of the breeders about putting your name down for a pup from them. Stewarding is nice too because you'll get a closer view of the hamsters as they're being judged and will be able to get an idea of what to look for in terms of show quality.

Wow she's beautiful! What a sweet little face. I've heard that chineseys are becoming harder and harder to find at pet stores, it's such a shame. I've never owned a Chinese but have heard they're lovely little ones

She really is a beauty, what an adorable little girl she is

Chineseys certainly are addictive lol! I don't quite know what it is about them either but after starting out with Russians & sort of getting my first Chinese girl by accident I find myself with 3 Chineseys & only 1 Russian now

She's lovely. I didn't know they could be like that, she has a really beautiful and clear coat, I thought they were darker and grey. Chinese are very good looking hamsters for sure.

There's three colours for Chinese.

There's the Normal (agouti) which is brown with a black dorsal (back) stripe, white underside and a slate grey base coat - My James, Victoria and Matthew and Cypher's Zen and Zylvan are Normals.

There's the Dominant Spot which is white with a dark dorsal stripe, brown patches and a white underside and base coat. The amount of brown patches can vary with some having large areas of brown and others being almost white with just the darker dorsal stripe - Tinkerbell, Cypher's Zeki and my Jessie are Dominant Spots.

Then there's the Black Eyed White which is usually owned by breeders and exhibitors and this is an entirely white hamster, absolutely stunning if you ever get to see one in the fur! Souffle's Bianca is a Black Eyed White.

Thankfully the genetics behind the Chinese colourings are a lot easier to understand than Syrian genetics.

There are two other colours in addition to Agouti, Dom Spot and BEW, but they are not NHC recognised as of yet and one is debated upon.

These are Striped and Piebald.

Striped looks like a Black Eyed White hamster but has a semi-dorsal stripe.

Piebald is controversial because it looks exactly like a Dom Spot just with better defined edges so it's possible it's just a really clear Dom Spot as opposed to a separate gene.

I breeder in the netherlands breeds (or bred) both mutations.

I was quite intrigued so went and googled the two colours. I managed to find some photos and they're very cute. <3

I can see where the controversy might have come from with the Piebald though as it does look very similar to a Dom Spot.

It'll be interesting to see how these develop and the genetics behind them as time goes on.
