Male Chinesey's can be ever so lazy when they want to be - he probably feels that a run on his wheel is perfectly adequate exercise and everything else is just too much like hard work.

He is a sweet boy, still not as tame as I'd like but we are progressing slowly & I think he'll mellow with age

Zeki is obviously settling into his new house and set up very well. To be contented as he is shows he is doing fine. Sure your patience will pay off in taming.

He was a real sweetheart this morning bless him
He's still very skittish at night but better in the mornings, I didn't even see him last night as he got up so late & he'd gone back to bed when I got up this morning so I was missing him & a little concerned as I always am when I don't see him for a while but then when I was still up to my eyes in it trying to sort out Zen's total chaos he was out & about again as tame as tame could be, running to the door & climbing up to me, it was like he was saying "It's ok mum, I'm still sane come & play with me instead!"
Of course he was on the scrounge but we had a lovely sweet time together

Zeki has been coming on in leaps & bounds the last few days, almost literally lol! as yesterday morning I had to put a hand out to catch him as I opened the door & he was in a rush to get out to me! It really reminded me of how Flynt used to throw himself at me when I opened his cage door & my heart completely melted We have been having some lovely bonding moments & he seems so much happier now.
I thought I might have pushed my luck a bit yesterday morning as he was happily running around, sitting in my hand & letting me stroke him & hold him without any skittishness at all then having a run in his wheel before coming back to my hand, then he went back in the wheel so I thought I'd risk having a check in his house (a bit overdue as I've been leaving it while he settles again) & it was a bit smelly so I began to clean it out & he didn't take any notice until I was just about to put clean substrate & tissue back in when he went to look & see what I was doing, oops!
Total panic again poor boy, he emptied his sand bath then starting digging like crazy under his ceramic tube but after a while he came back out to my hand, didn't seem to blame me for the big scary event & I was able to tempt him back into his house surprisingly quickly, he was fine again in the evening so I think we've made real progress there!

Love! love! These updates on Zeki, my heart melted at him throwing himself at you - what a wonderful moment for both of you. Bless him emptying his sand bath after you dared to clean his house. So cute how they express their feelings. Of course he came back out to your hand, he had his strop and feels better for it, plus he knows these hands are magic hands.

How lovely to read of your progress with Zeki, cypher. He forgave you very quickly over the house clean so that shows how the trust is building up. His reaction was very funny though!
