Re: Easter Chinese Rescue
That's sooooo much better
She's looking lovely too!
I would be inclined to put a few more tubes or boxes in there though, it still looks a bit too open at the moment.
How much substrate did you manage? If you possible can 3-4" would be good so she can really have a lovely burrow
You could use bendy bridges to block off an area for the wheel if need be so there can be less substrate there if it won't fit with more.

Re: Easter Chinese Rescue
There is at least 4 in of Carefresh in there. I have lots more tubes, the problem is the wheel tips over in the night and makes noise as it bangs against the plastic cause it's tilted and not standing upright. I could find something to put behind the wheel, maybe that bendy log she has by her house (would that work?) or go out and buy her a bendy bridge? Probably a bendy bridge would be better? She needs a sandbath too. She loves burrowing and this morning she was up taking seeds from me looking very happy. I'm so glad I upgraded her. Thanks for telling me that it looks too open, I'll work on that today!
Because she burrows so much it moves the base of the wheel out of place. I can still hear her up in that bin having a good old time

Re: Easter Chinese Rescue
Could you fence off a bit of her (lovely bigger) cage with a bendy bridge fence and have the wheel on a substrate free area? Thats what Woodstock has in his multi duna maxi cage.
The fence doesnt show but he has hardly any substrate in his wheel area. Oh he looks so fluffy compared to now, although it is starting to grow back.
Or up on a platform (Fairy's cage);
You can just see the 'fence' on the left hand side of Gopal (x) in this picture;

Re: Easter Chinese Rescue
I've fenced off Zeki's wheel too as it's too tall to sit on the substrate, I made a sort of rectangle with two bridges & put a small shelf under the wheel on just a small amount of substrate to keep it stable, a bit of toilet tissue, couple of sheets folded over, under the wheel can help to stop it moving around too.

Re: Easter Chinese Rescue
I ended up putting that bendy log (in the pic in front of her green house) behind the wheel. So it works good as I saw Izzy running in the wheel this morning with all the lights on too! She's so much happier. Didn't want to overwhelm her with too big of cage cause of her age as you know
She needs a Pet-Co ladder & a sand bath. Will add those to the cage soon. For now I put in another cardboard tube. Thanks for your suggestions on the wheel. Her Silent Spinner works in her cage but it needed something behind it to keep it from falling backwards.

Re: Easter Chinese Rescue
As long as she doesn't dislodge the base from burrowing tonight it should work. She's running on it right now & I thought the stress would overwhelm her up until yesterday. Those Critter cages need to be off the shelves ASAP!
