Default Chinese hamsters for adoption or sale Newcastle Upon Tyne?

Hello! I was wondering if anybody knows any Chinese hamsters preferably up for adoption but I'd be willing to buy too!

Ever since I had my first my favourite hamster type has been Chinese and I really want one in my life again! I'm hoping to get another hamster as sort of a Christmas present of course it's no light matter but I've worked out my finances and I have room for and can afford to bring a new little hammy baby into my home!

I was hoping for a little chinese, but I can't find any ads and as much as I hate shopping at pet stores for hamsters - they don't even sell them at my local!

Does anyone know any up for adoption or any trusted breeders in Newcastle upon Tyne in England??

Thank you!! ♥

Good luck with your hunt, it took me ages to find somewhere selling Chinese hams anywhere near me, if there aren't any breeders or shows you can get too then you could try what I did which was just trawling through yellow pages online looking for pet shops I didn't know of within a distance I could get too, took me a very long time & a bit of imagination lol! but it was so worth the time & effort!

I contacted a local breeder who also shows and he picked up a roborovski hamster for me (two in the end). Perhaps you could find a local breeder and see if they could help?

Try the Pets At Home adoption area. They sometimes have Chinese hamsters that are either too old to sell as babies, or that have been brought back to the store for fighting with a cage mate as Chinese hamsters should never be sold in pairs, yet some people still do it. Not the fault of the hamster.

Gumtree sometimes advertises `dwarf hamster free` or `with cage`, but they don`t say what the species is and sometimes they post an image that shows a Chinese hamster but they just say `dwarf hamster` in the ad. So worth checking. x

RH P@H don't sell them any more, that's the main reason there are so few up for adoption now, with them being less readily available less people are giving up on them & putting them up for adoption, probably quite a good thing for the hams but it makes it hard to find one if you'd rather adopt.

Oh, I didn`t know that cypher, thanks for telling me. Yes, in some ways a good move as many were being sold in pairs or anyone buying a Chinese perhaps wasn`t aware of their `personalities` not being that if a typical hamster, but more mouse-like. Something I warmed to as a past mouse owner. I would still check their adoption area though as a few may find themselves returned that were originally purchased there, although you could ask the staff about that and whether they are accepting them back.

So Chinese hamsters may become rarer then as a consequence, but perhaps that will prevent them from becoming kids pets or misunderstood. x

I've no doubt they would take a Chinese in RH so it is always worth checking but it's been a while now, there have been a few threads about the difficulty finding them, so they seem to be very very few & far between when it comes to adoption from anywhere.
Mind you if I can find one, even though I had to buy rather adopt, here in the deepest depths of the back of beyond that has to give anyone else who's desperate some hope!

Oh wow! I didn't think I had any replies on this post so I checked it so late so thank you for replying!!

I can definitely try to contact a breeder! It's such a shame that they're so hard to find these days, they're such lovely hammies! The closest chinese breeders to me are on the other side of the country, so unfortunately they're really hard to find! I have a Syrian breeder near me however so I think I'll try to get in contact with her!

I very rarely see Chinese Hamsters for sale these days and that is such a shame because they make such lovely pets. They seem to be overlooked a little bit in pet shops and I have to wonder if it's because people think they're too much like mice or it could be that less is known about them.

Sometimes you might find Chineseys for sale at a show but you'd probably be best to check with the sales manager before you go.

If they do become rarer than hens teeth to find, I`m glad I had the joy of owning my Prinny because she was such a sweetheart and lost far too soon to ill health.

If they are only available through good breeders then that`s possibly a good thing if you can source one. But at the same time, there are always little Russian dwarfs and Roborovski up for adoption too so all is not lost. x
