I think I may have to put the empty play pen next to the bin & sit in it just in case I lose her

I'm so glad she enjoyed it.
May was nervous to start with too but once she got used to it, she loved it. Now I find that she's usually waiting for play time.

Re: Meet Whisper
I think I was probably more nervous than she was yesterday when she started running up my arm lol! She came out early this afternoon & was in confident mode so we gave it another go & she did seem more relaxed about it, she didn't run up my arm at every opportunity this time but of course she had to give it a go & spent quite a bit of time running around on my back & shoulders where I couldn't see her so I was glad I'd thought to sit in the play pen
When she did come back onto my arm she was happy enough with me picking her up & carrying her back to the cage in my hand rather than her mug so we're definitely making progress
when I put her back in the cage she seemed really excited & kept running back to the door for more & was again really comfortable sitting in my hand with me stroking her, she still needs a little bit of food there but that's fine for now.

Re: Meet Whisper
She's becoming very adventurous and what a comfort she is to you, she's making sure you don't get too sad and she knows how to cheer you up. Such a clever girl.

Re: Meet Whisper
The barricades are now up in earnest!
I've never known a ham get quite so defensive with me interfering with the nest as little Whisper, it's a shame it does seem to keep setting us back a few steps although totally understandable, when she arrived she had nothing to lose but now she has lots to protect & she's doing her best to keep it that way lol!
As she's been here quite a while now the other day I thought it was about time I actually took her house out to have a look underneath & see what she's been up to, it turned out I didn't really need to, she only seems to pee on top & there was nothing nasty in her food hoard, a bit hard to tell though as she digs & burrows so much it all gets mixed in with the substrate rather than being a nice neat pile that's easy to replace so she wasn't well pleased with me at all & not really talking to me much for a day or two then I made another big mistake, she's moved into the house nearest her wheel after I messed with the other one which makes it harder to check on the sly while she's running & when I tried she promptly jumped in & peed on every thing, a lot! Chinese hams are so good at peeing to order lol!
Now the defences are up (a good couple of hours work!) she seems a bit happier again, I'm going to have to be a bit more careful with my spot cleaning & hopefully we'll keep it that way, live & learn!
Happily she was very interactive & speaking to me again this morning up for such a long time showing off her best begging behaviour she ended up bit by bit taking a whole days food from my hand that I had intended scattering after she'd gone back to bed!

Re: Meet Whisper
At least she didn't stay cross with you for too long.
May is pretty defensive over her cage being kept the way it is too so I can sympathise entirely with you there. Hamsters eh?

LOVE that new photo cypher. You can tell it reminds me of Mocho's behaviour at times!
