So Hope Lady May's gums are better and that's all it is.
Big hugs to you and Lady May xx

Re: The Beautiful Miss Lady May's Thread
Thank you for all your kind thoughts everyone.
I've yet to see an improvement in my girl when I checked her over last night and today is her fifth day of Baytril. I'm still hoping that it's an abcess and it'll settle down but as time goes on, it looks less likely.
Yesterday I discovered she'd not eaten much of her food so offered her a little bit of Science Selective that had been wettened with a bit of her water and I notice today that she's eaten all of what I gave her so I'm wondering if she's too sore to eat anything too hard.
She's still got bags of energy and still managed to make a terrible mess in her cage building tunnels last night and other than a tiny little red bump under her chin, you wouldn't even know that anything was wrong with her from the outside. When you look in her mouth though, that's when the problem becomes immediately apparent and it's really quite sad.

Re: The Beautiful Miss Lady May's Thread
I'm really sorry to hear there's no improvement yet Fluffagrams, even if it is an abscess it could take a bit longer so here's hoping it is an infection of some sort that will clear up with time, keeping fingers crossed.
She certainly sounds as though she's still enjoying life bless her.
Have you tried her with porridge? If she's having trouble eating she might enjoy a little of that as a nice treat along with her science selective.

Meat used to love porridge but I can't remember if I ever gave any to May when I used to make it for him. I'll have to try her on a bit to see how she gets on. I've got some baby food that I'd bought to try and get a bit of extra protien into James to build him up so I can always give her a bit of that for variety too.

Re: The Beautiful Miss Lady May's Thread
Certainly worth a try, Whisper loves her porridge (not that she get it often now) & she had a little bit of baby food once in a while when Flynt was still having it, Zephyr used to love her baby food too so I'd be surprised if Lady May didn't enjoy some.
If you're still looking for a high protein supplement without too much fat or anything else I've found these to be really popular with mine, very handy being as I'm vegetarian & don't have chicken to feed them!
They aren't even that hard so maybe May could manage it but I'm sure James would like it anyway.

Re: The Beautiful Miss Lady May's Thread
I really don't know where we are with Lady May at the moment. One minute it looks like she's making improvements and the next it seems like things have got worse. It's a real rollercoaster of hope, worry and sadness when it crosses my mind that I could lose my special girl because of this.
As I am concerned that her begging through the mesh could rub her chin, I've moved her out of her bin cage and into the Duna Multy that I'd got from a member here. She didn't seem too cross over the changes and settled in okay once she worked out what was what.

Re: The Beautiful Miss Lady May's Thread
I have been following both your threads from the beginning Fluffagrams and I am so very sorry that you have this real worry over your beautiful little girl's health. I can't advise any but just wanted you to know that I am really hoping she picks up on the meds. My boy does love the selective science biscuits and has them regularly. I have always thought the softening advice sounded very good so I hope that helps her eat better.

Re: The Beautiful Miss Lady May's Thread
I can really empathise with your feelings & I'm so sorry your having to go through this with your beautiful girl, still keeping everything crossed & hoping she's going to get better.
Good idea putting her in the DM, glad to hear she didn't mind too much & settled in ok.

Re: The Beautiful Miss Lady May's Thread
I checked her over earlier and the lump has either grown/moved and is protruding from her mouth. It's a dark red coloured soft looking lump and whilst she doesn't seem ill in herself, I think it's bothering her a bit as she was cleaning her mouth area and it almost looked like she was trying to push it out of her mouth. She's still managing to eat as the porridge I gave her yesterday got eaten and she's eaten a couple of bites of her soggy science selective.
Although I've nursed a hamster with a tumour before, it was in his cheek pouch so I couldn't actually see what it looked like to compare it with this lump of May's.
I'll try and get an appointment at the vets tomorrow for her as I'm not entirely happy with how things are looking. My concern is that if this thing bursts then she'll lose a lot of blood. Obviously I've got a hamster first aid kit but there's only so much that I'll be able to do.
