Re: Meet boris!
What a cutie!
I'm quiet sure that you have a russian campbell thoug
Chinese hamsters are much slimmer, kind of like a mouse, but with a sorter tail. Yet the tail is langer than other hamsters.

Re: Meet boris!
Hi and welcome to HC
As Mona says that is not a chinese hamster. It could be a campbells dwarfhamster, but if you got it from a petshop it is more likely to be a hybrid (a mix between a campbell and a winterwhite dwarfhamster)
The site is pretty easy to use, if you go to the forum you can see the different forum topics, with great information in each. If you have any questions and you can't find a thread that already explains it, you can always make a new thread and then we have some great moderators with a good memory so they might link you to an older thread. otherwise it never hurts to have the same questions again.
And there is no stupid questions, and chance is that someone here can help you or might even have the same question as you. I haven't been on the forum very long, but people here are so sweet and helpful, and it is clear that everyone loves hamsters.
Another great feauture I use a lot is the 'unread post' thing, that is in the top right corner, which will show you the threads that have new posts in them.

Re: Meet boris!
Welcome to the forum Fifi! Boris is gorgeous! Sorry he's not a chinese ham like you thought, pet shops do mislabel them on occasion!

I's funny you should say that but I saw a Roborovski labelled as a Chinese earlier today. I think they'd just not got around to changing the cage labels.
Welcome to the forums Fifi and even though Boris is not the Chinese Hamster that you first thought he was, he's absolutely adorable.

Re: Meet boris!
Aww Boris is gorgeous, certainly no less gorgeous for being a little Russian hybrid rather than a Chinese! Welcome to both of you

Re: Meet boris!
Not a Chinese hamster but cute all the same! You have a hybrid Russian dwarf hamster so you need to be aware that these hamsters can`t have sugary treats or added sugars in their hamster food. Things like honey, syrup, molasses or any fruit based sprayed additives.
He can still have a little piece of fresh apple though or carrot, so it`s not a total ban on natural sugars. He can also enjoy the whole of his mix as there is no need to remove corn or peas or anything else you might read on the internet, although dried fruits or large pieces of dried banana should be removed. My Burgess Supahamster contains a few dried slices of banana but I still break small pieces off for my Russian dwarf as no small amount of something he enjoys is going to be harmful, so don`t deprive him of such goodies, just make sure he`s not getting them every day. x

Re: Meet boris!
Oh gosh i really want to take him home and keep him! What a cutie!
Welcome to both of you!
I'm sure he'll be very calming and bring you a lot of joy. I suffer from serious anxiety and my hamster has pulled me through so much already. It gives you something positive to focus on and kinda removes everything negative just by being a tiny cute ball of fluff C:
