A few months after my partner got his Syrian, I started doing some hamster research myself - and so decided to get a Chinese ham
I went with my parents to an independent pet store and found some females in their small pets section, although annoyingly I was asked if I wanted two because they like to be kept in pairs >__> I politely declined.
This is an older photo of her (taken about 6 weeks ago) - the meadow hay was a temporary substrate while my partner and I tried to track down somewhere local that sold Aubiose. Since this was taken her enclosure has also been upgraded from a mini Duna to a Duna Multy
I named her Sakura because of the little white petal shape in her head.
This is the new/bigger enclosure with Aubiose substrate, which I picked up recently (I held off upgrading for at least 3 weeks after we moved as I didnt want to stress her out too much). It includes a medium silent spinner wheel, wooden climbing toy/ladder, rainbow bridge, private sand bath (plastic container full of play sand with a wooden bendy bridge covering the top), wooden hide, teepee house/nest, cardboard tube and a pair of ceramic bowls for food/water.
Sakura has a very sweet nature, is quiet and shy. Taming is going at her pace because of the shyness ^_^ but she has come quite a long way since I first brought her home; she happily takes food from your fingers/hand but wont always sit on you to eat the food offering (some days she prefers to take it under the rainbow bridge to eat). She is still a little unsure about being lifted up or leaving her enclosure/territory.
Im going to try and get some better/more recent photos soon - she isn't easy to photograph though XD she is very quick!
