Should separated hamsters be in view of each other?
I was wondering if it would freak them out to see each other? At the moment they are in separate rooms but space wise it would be better to place the cages close together, would that cause them stress?

Re: Should separated hamsters be in view of each other?
I don't think it matters to be honest. Our two newly separated chinese boys are in cages next to each other (although they are tanks so they won't smell each other, thats just because using these cages works best for now) and they're right on top of one of our other male chinese.
Our hams are all really good about ignoring hams outside their cages

I have a syrian, a russian and a chinese and their cages are all right next to each other, none of them have ever noticed the others!

Yeah, our tanks are pretty close together. I know the Syrians smell each other and will stare at each other sometimes, but we've never had a problem.

That's good to know, thanks! I've hardly seen or heard either of them since the split, I think they must be sulking!

Re: Should separated hamsters be in view of each other?
I have 3 robo's that I split up due to them fighting. The one that was the "bully" is way more outgoing than the ones that were bullied. She will come out at night when she feels a little safer. She's in a new home and that takes a little time to get used to. I have had my boys for a couple months now and still rarely see the shier one that was being bullied the most. Don't worry, I assure you she is much happier on her own. She is probably enjoying her first alone time where she doesn't have to worry about being attacked

I would be happy to keep the cages together but far enough apart so the hamsters can`t grab at one another, or one might manage to escape and climb on the other cage and have it`s toes bitten! x
