Re: would you put a Chinese hamster in an Alaska cage.
What is the gap between the bars on the Alaska cage? If it`s less than 1cm, you might be fine, but you would also need to scour the cage barred section around doors and along the edges for any potential escape routes. Chinese hamsters will climb and monkey bar to find any spaces, so if there are any openings you are wary of, I would first make sure those are cable tied tightly to narrow any possible escape routes. I`ve never kept a dwarf hamster in a barred cage so far but if I did, I would use my Kios due to it`s narrow bars to be re-assured. But that`s not to say a cage with slightly wider bars will cause any problems. My female Chinese lived in a Gabber Rex and enjoyed the space, but given that Chinese do like to climb, a safe barred cage would probably be a better home unless it caused bar chewing behaviour. My robo is currently residing in my Gabber Rex and I could house him in the Kios, but he`s a little nutter and likes to exploit/chew bars or gaps, so I feel the best option for him is the Gabber.
