Chinese hamster? Advice please !!!

Hiya
I am thinking of getting a Chinese hamster, could some one please tell me if these hamsters make good pets and if they are friendly, also does anyone breed these who live in kent, and have any available?
I would be grateful of any help you can give me

chinese hamsters are lovely and a joy to have! i had two female from a petshop and had to separate after 4months but lived very happily on their own. they have very sweet natures and have a tendancy to cling to your finger with their paws, which is so cute :P
i think thought seen as you are looking into getting them from a breeder you will have no problem as they will be used to handling etc as a petshop ham doesnt have quite the same experience of this in my opinion.
my two girls did tend to nip quite a bit but did get better. as i said, a chinese from a breeder may have a better temperament

Hi ya I was always a bit worried about chinese hamsters but after meeting one and holding a chinese hammy for the first time wow I can say they are lovely and I am now getting a chinese hammy. I would get a book on them I got one from P@H it was in with the dwarf hamster book there was some about the chinese. I would only have one chinese though as petshops will say they will live together yes they may for a while and then they will not get on and will fight. They are friendlier toward people. There temperament has got better they used to get bad press but now they are lovely. I have syrians also have had russians and robos in the past this will be my first chinese and I can't wait. Joining the forum is the first step and asking for advice you have made progress getting the right equipment i.e cages etc. I would definatly read up about the chinese and what you need.

the Chinese (as you know) have a very special place in my heart after I refused to adopt 1 "old" lady out of the Adoption Centre saying she bites just because I was determined no one else was going to have her

They are incredibly affectionate towards humans which is very rare for dwarf hammies, although strictly speaking they're not actually dwarfs but I'm sure you've read all about that too.

I'm going to the Andover show next Saturday so do let me know if you want any bringing back from there

You will not regret having a Chinese I think they're fabulous
