it's very normal here i DK, and it's working just fine
as long as the mom knows your smell and dosn't stress around
it's all about knowing the mom well!
And I would never breed on a hamster, that I don't trust can handle the job as mom and aren't confident with my smell
I allways check up the babies every morning and evening, so I'm sure, there isn't any problems with any of the hamsters...
but shure - if I don't know the mom that well or she isn't confident with the smell of my hands, I would never handle them before 10-12 days of age!...
