Default Can you tell me if this cage is ok?

Hi all
Im looking into getting my first every hamster soon and I've ben doing some research on cages
I think I've found one within my budget and suitable.
I would love to know you opinions!
It's called the Little Friends Mayfair Gerbilarium Cage
and it would be for a robo dwarf hamster.

I look forward to hearing from you all!

The cage you suggest is rather too small for a hamster of any description. A robo will need a minimum of around 50 x 80 square centimetres of unbroken floor space. If budget is a problem, you could try a bin cage, which I believe can be picked up quite cheaply, although you will probably need to make a lid (there are examples on line re how to do this) and cut out a window. Also, please be aware that the cage bars (if you go for a cage with bars) need to be closer together for a robo than for other hamsters.

Hi, as Petite stated, that cage is not big enough and for a robo I would consider the gaps too big. I can't seem to find the bar width but it does look quite big. For a robo I would be looking at 6-7mm bar widths. They can get (or try to get) through the tiniest of gaps.

Going by your link, I presume you are in the Uk?

This thread that I did re all different types of cages might help you,

UK Hamster Cages 2021

Unless you are buying 2nd hand or going to make a cage, I think the zoozone large is probably about one of the best buys at the moment, you would still need to mesh the top part.

Bin cages are also a cheaper option, if you have the tools to make them. They need meshing, drilled holes is not enough ventilation.

Hope this helps.

thank you so much
I will definitely check that out!
I don't want a bin cage but I was thinking maybe a large skyline Marrakesh? such as the Marrakesh 100 or 120- would that be ok?

That would be a great cage, I have the Marrakesh 100 for my robo, but I haven't see them for sale online since Brexit.

The Marrakesh is very good, but the 100 hasn't been available for several months. I know a Marrakesh 120 exists in theory but I 've never seen it for sale. Have you found it for sale in the UK?

no I haven't. I didn't realise it was so hard to get a hold off! might have to rethink.
Any other cage recommendations?

I agree with Luna that a Zoozone 2 with a meshed lid is a good option. There's also the Ferplast Maxi Duna Multy which doesn't need the lid meshed but it's twice the price.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zoozone-620...5064023&sr=8-1

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ferplast-Ma...5064023&sr=8-4

You could also look for a second hand fish tank on Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace etc. Look for one 80x50cm bigger, and you'll need to make a mesh lid for it.
