Re: VivExotic Repti-Stax 34" vivarium as a hamster cage
If you don't want your hamster peeing on the wheel I'd just avoid putting the stand directly in the corner :P Lol. That's why Gino peed on his -- he picked THAT corner and peed all over the stand. Go figure.

Re: VivExotic Repti-Stax 34" vivarium as a hamster cage
Lol lovely. I have the little pot in the corner next to the wheel so he wont really be able to get to the corner. Im hoping he'll pee in the sand bath which is at the front on the right, will make cleaning a lot easier!
Im more worried about him peeing while running. With a ham i had a few years ago he was in one of those awful small cages with an external wheel. He used to pee and poo in the wheel. There was also a small gap between the wheel and cage. Can you see where this is going? The cupboard the cage was on was built into a corner alcove and painted white gloss but ended up a tinged orangey pee colour that had stained right through. No amount of cleaning shifted it. It was our first house and was rented so i werent too fussed lol we moved shortly after!

Oh dear. Eww lol.
They tend to do that more if the wheel is external I believe, since it's closed in they tend to use it as everything. I've only had one hamster do that and it was a chinese hamster -- he slept in the wheel, ate in the wheel, peed in the wheel, ran in the wheel with bedding inside it... :P
Other than that I don't think you'll need to worry about it too much, since it's not closed in.
You can always try encouraging him to pee in the sand bath if you want to use it as a litter -- if he doesn't pee in it, when you clean out the cage, keep some of the peed-on bedding and mix it with the sand bath. He'll smell it and it may encourage him to go to the toilet there.
That's what I did to make Gino pee in a certain corner of the vivarium and it worked haha.

I have to re teach Screech to use the corner loo. She used to use it but I dont know why, she prefers to go under her house as it is on stilts and pee under there.
She goes and sits in the corner loo but does nothing in it. She has a bath in the sand bath. I will have to move her corner loo to where her wheelhouse is I think.

Done. I hate this laptop. I sometimes hit one of the buttons above the touch pad when I hit certain letters or space bar and it moves to where the mouse cursor is. I look at my keys when typing and not at the screen. Sometimes, I dont bother with the screen until it is too late. lol.

He just pees on the substrate but I do plan on getting him a potty at one point. I just wanted him to pee at the back of the vivarium and not the front - so it was easier to clean out, and also because I felt it was better sealed (since I didn't have to stick my head in the vivarium to seal it haha)

Lol so the wood hasnt shown any signs of getting wrecked with pee? Do you have an old small oven dish or a bowl that you could use for the time being? Put it in his pee corner so its easier to clean out and not getting onto the viv
