This cage is pretty small, but I know that decent cages are hard to fond in the us, could you get him a wheel on a stand and take the other wheel away?

I have this cage for Jasper, it's hooked to another crittertrail cage(one of the beginning ones), and I also have a few other extensions. I actually taped the wheel on top in place because he would sleep up there and store his food in it, then run. Crap went everywhere! Don't worry, he technically has 3 wheels not including the taped one(he sleeps in another one). lol.

I just recently got rid of the blue water bottles that came with it because I didn't like the fact that I couldn't really clean it or see inside of it.

I have yet to have anything major happen to it, so it's unusable.

He loves the little slide thing. He loves to sleep at the top of it. lol.

We won the base cage in a raffle and added tubes to another, smaller cage. Our dwarf winter white seems happy as a little hamster can be in there.

We added an external wheel (which is very quiet) as after a few weeks the internal one that came with the cage started squeaking at a pitch that made our teeth hurt. The only downside to this setup is that we have a very long tube connecting the main lodge to the little multi-level room and need to put a sturdy table under both cages, not having the tube running mid-air between two cages on separate bases - we live in earthquake country and one good shake or accidental bump and the long tube tends to separate from the housing, leaving a hamster-sized gap (we found that out last weekend).

The tubes will come apart in halves, everything disassembles easily. The little room has a top level that can be closed off and become a hamster-carrier in emergencies, and we've had no trouble keeping everything clean. Overall, we're quite happy with the cage, and the hamster seems happy and healthy as well.

Here's a link to Arnold running in his outside wheel after we re-captured him (he was sitting like a little furry Buddha eating a sunflower seed in the corner of the room). You can see the seeds on the floor that we put out to lure him back.

This was my first hamsters cage but I disliked it as soon as the ham had moved in, there was barley any room for toys, the weel stopped going in circles (somhow it got stuck, so whenever she used it there would be a pile of powder afterwards) and my ham was a bar chewer and the paint on the bars started to chip off! I am sure that was not healthy if swallowed... D:

Actually, He's very happy in there.

I do need to do a " RED ALERT" here, though.

The unit came with a wheel in it, and the plastic on the top of the cage was moulded up to accommodate the wheel. (The wheel fit into a yellow plastic balcony inside there that served as the anchor point for the spindle.) When I took the wheel out and subbed a new one at the end of a plastic tube, I didn't think anything about the ventilation slots at the top of the "skylight" where the the wheel use to turn in..... short story: Arnold got out. That's the only place we can think of that he got out - we checked that entire setup over with a magnifying glass practically.

We happened to be sitting in the living room when the cat ran into our closet and then ran down the hall carrying something white. Yes, it was. Headfirst. Arnold - we thought he was dead, but he was just passed out. I would have been, too, since he used to come over to the side of the cage, completely unafraid of the cat - thought he was his big furry friend. Then he's halfway down his mouth!

That was a week ago. He's fine now. And we went to the hardware store and got a sheet of very thin brass that is now superglued and packing taped to the place where the wheel used to fit and the ventilation slots were. He is not getting out through there again.

Near miss, almost fatal. Be sure if you get one of these and you remove the wheel to block the ventilation slots. They're not very wide, but apparently they are wide enough!

Ive been using Crittertrails for my Black Bear Syrian Hammy and the only complaint I have is some of the plastic parts are cheap or have cracked. I currently use 5 different cages all connected together. I find them very easy to clean, as my HamYam usually only has 2 potty areas that require actual deep cleaning. I actually have fun reassembling them after cleanup because I do something different each time. He seems very happy and uses every single cage daily. I found all of my cages for very cheap and pick up parts here and there at garage sales, thrift shops, etc.

My photo uploaded sideways and I dont know how to flip it, sorry.

I have two of these SAM cages, but they are only used as a addition between two 10 gallon tanks with tank toppers on each. Basically I use them because it's easier to get Patches out to play through that door, or the little tray thing, than it is to get her out of the top of the tank topper. Her home is very big. If I can figure out how to add a nice big door to the front of her 2 tank toppers I may even get rid of the plastic cages...or just use them as playgrounds in her dog playpen.
