Default Re: Superpet Crittertrail X

Id like to say something on this cage.
Negative: The wheel on top is very noisy, The crittertrail blue waterbottles were just a curiosity for my hamster but they are the most common hamster homes to find in any Canadian (alberta) pet shops.

All these larger one's i keep seeing from other countries I CANNOT find here...So unless you go with crittertrail/habitrail for your hamster, a large aquarium or rickety tiny wire ones (also found in all petstores, making the crittertrails actually look BIG)...then your out of luck if your not willing to import.

Positive: Even tho I dont like these cages alone, I have several connected together on a shelving unit (this doesnt seem to be the most valued way of housing, as ive noticed on several forums, but so far I feel ive been doing the best with what I find locally). I find the tubes easy to assemble, the cages easy to clean and my hamster seems happy.
Im still open to new ideas that I find, like bins, although Id want one that is very clear/visually appealing. Im Currently waiting on an aquarium....(im not sure if I should scrap the crittertrails and JUST go with an aquarium....Im worried about the air flow)

I've actually chucked this cage away, it fell apart! I've kept some of the bits and bobs to make new bits for other cages.

Thanks for the review... It's a shame it's so small as it has a lot of really nice features that would be fab on any cage if only they were bigger...such as the 'treehouse/sandbath/petting zone/holding pen' ( ) & the spiral staircase.

I wish they would stop making cages for children & start making them for the actual animal that lives in them

Well, they are Just hamsters. What do they care if they have space as long as they have food and water? Well, that seems to be the general veiw of some of these 'cages'.

I think that superpet should do a range of "medium" sized cages. They do small ones for dwarf hamsters and huge ones for rats, and ferrets ect, so why don't they do some inbetween sized ones which would be awesome for syrians.. Makes no sense to me!

i was really interested in getting that cage but there was lots of bad comments and complaints about all the Crittertrail cages. People said that the plastic kept breaking off, the door wouldnt shut properly and the cage was hard to put back together after cleaning. And the racket of the wheel really put me off! But thats just my opinion

I have this cage and have done for sometime now linked to a critter trail one and a habitrail ovo suet and my Syrian loves it she actually spends most of her time in there. The only fall I admit to I have found with it is that the ramp thing to the wheel takes a lot of space so I put a tube from the outside going up into the cage then into the wheel so it takes a lot less space up. that’s the only thing I can recommend doing if you seem to be having space problems my local pet shop sells the tubes for a starting price of £1 so it was easy for me. The wheel well I put a small amount of cooking oil on the rim of the wheel and that solved the sound. And my hamster has never managed to open the cage door on the X or critter 1 but I do know it happens to some people.
So I would give this cage a 6/10
Hope I helped with anyone who has had any of the problems and il try and take a photo to show what I mean with the tubes going in and out of the cage

I had a friend who has this cage for one of their dwarfs, I really don't think it's a very suitable cage at all but I guess since her little ham was happy in it I can't really say much else.

mr nibbles had this cage as a playground area, as sorts...he loved it..but the wheel longer no spins around. i mean, he can run in the wheel but it does rotate anymore like it is supposed to...which is depressing to him i think and to me ...i have no idea which bit is bent or whatever and causing it to be unable to rotate properly, which means short of buying the cage over again its probably going to remain that way not a great cage..i think it bent because nibbles would sleep in it for hours and his weight may have done it (and he's very tiny!). generally i think the crittertrail y or z would be better buys!
