Default The Alexander!

Hello, my alexander arrived yesterday at about 6pm and I set it all up. So i decided to do a review in case anyone else was thinking on getting one!

Pros

It's huge! 101x53x51cm (LxWxH) I think.
Good bar spacing (its 7mm not 1cm as the website says).
Comes with 3 wooden houses.
Lots of room for toys.
Can fit 30cm wheels.
Deep base so you can have a lot of substrate.
Wooden panels can be put in where ever you want.

Cons

Because of its size you need a lot of bedding.
The wooden panels need to be plasticoted.
Wooden panels need to be low otherwise it's a big drop.
Because of its height if a hamster manages to climb to the top (51cm) and falls and lands badly could be dangerous or could get its feet caught in the bars as they are 7mm not 1cm.
(PERSONAL NOTE) The door at the top is quite hard to open.
(PERSONAL NOTE) Very loud cage everything echoes.
Can be hard to build has vague instructions.

Personal opinion - With a bunch of cons most of them wont be an issue. I love this cage its so big and room! I noticed my hamster behavior has changed a lot even though it's only been one night.

Rating 9/10.

If you would like a video tour or review do comment

Pictures below (note: I did not use all the panels as they weren't all necessary).

Also do you think BnQ would sell a 13 year old boy plastikote?

Er... I disagree with a surprising amount of this review, but since my own review (and about half a dozen other peoples reviews) is elsewhere I'll not say much more on that. I do want to say that I really disagree about you thinking its hard to build... We have four and all have been absurdly easy to build without even looking at instructions. The houses are more difficult but even those are easy with the instructions unless you plastikoted them before building (in which case brute force and hammers solve all problems lol).

Yes B&Q will sell you plastikote. I'm pretty sure paint isn't an age restricted product.

Hmmmm...tubes. I have miles of tubes left over from Squeak's mansion. I wonder if the connectors from Savic would fit in a door in the Alexander?

Didn't you say it was tough for Squeak and she'd have to live with her cage...?
And they'd probably be a bit too small.

Ummm, yeh...*coughs*

I did not actually hear her last night because I slept really deep. but she IS my lil Squeaky...odd thing is, she's begging to come out now and she has never done that before. She used to run away because her mansion was so large. Never mind. She also has a playpen. It's not as if she's suck in a teeny cage.

I now sound as if I'm mistreating her!

lol I'm glad you didn't hear her last night and her cage is awesome. She'll get used to it
And no - no ham who has an Alexander is likely to be mistreated lol

Lol. I LOVE the Alexander!! I personally found it hard to build, until someone on here told me how the shelves go in, but I find a lot of things difficult do it may have just been me! One thing I moticed - until recently - was that Belle no longer chewed on the bars, which I assumed was due to the bigger space. Now she's back to chewing and she's got so many toys plus her new wheel that there's no way she can be bored!! I#m wondering if I should put the second corner shelf back in as she's only been chewing since I took it out. I dunno. However I also disagree with some parts of the review, I don't find the top door hard to open and it isn't a loud cage - I'm not sure what you meant by that? I sometimes find taking the top off quite hard but usually after a good tug it's fine I'm even getting used to picking it up - it lives on top of my desk, but to clean it I put it on the floor, and then have to get it back up on the desk lol
