Default Cage review - Ferplast furet plus

Name of cage : Ferplast Furet plus
Size : 70 x 48 x 78cm (L x W x H)
Bar spacing : 1 cm (it varies from what I read mine is 1cm spacing)
Suitable for : Syrian hamsters
Price : £85 new (P@H) or second hand cheap as chips on ebay

LIKES :
  1. Size - its enormous
  2. Ability to customise the use of space in anyway I like to suit the hammy
  3. Huge top door and front door for easy access
  4. Easy to clean
  5. Sturdy cage, it has had a rat in it for 1.5 years before it became a hamster cage and it still looks like new
  6. Great for a ham who likes to climb

DISLIKES :
  1. Better cages available for the money
  2. Needs a lot of extra bits adding to make it hamster safe - wilkos wooden shelves cost £3 each and can help in making it safe!
  3. Ladder to shelf is useless
  4. Not the most ideal cage for a hamster really

This is the cage in its standard rat form

Once ive added the new wooden shelves ill photograph it

the blue wooden shelf is a wilkinsons untreated pine shelf painted and attached to the bars with screws and washers ... it cost £3! And there are all the bracket bits that came with the shelf that I will attach to it as ledges once I get more washers and screws. They do corner shelves for £3 as well.

And teh willow hammock type shelves are just garden willow stick things from poundland attached with cable ties maysie moo seems happy but doesnt seem to use the height well ... she may move into a hamster heaven and let daxter climby boy have this one.

Thanks Was it easy getting the washers into the wood? I don't have any tools, well, I have some screwdrivers but that's it...

Pine is super super soft wood, literall I screwed a screw in part way to make a set hole for the screw, held the shelf where I wanted it, put the screw through the washer and then screwed the screw into the wood until the washer was loose on the outside of the bars, did them all then tightened them all up

if I get time or inclination I might do her whole cage a colour theme ... and paint those awful teal coloured strut things

Isn't this a little bit tall for hams? I'm looking into a bigger cage for Minnie and was just wondering...

Its taller than they need but no its not too tall, all the shelves and hammocks mean that the hamster cannot fall very far upto the blue shelf is the height of a standard cage really.

As an upgrade to this, I just purchased another one of these for £29 including delivery. I <3 these cages. Nice and tall allowing a wheel, substrate and shelves and a decent footprint of 80x50cm.
