I'd really recommend a bin cage in your case, considering this is his second cage. You can get suitable ones from IKEA.

I've seen this cage in person and can't believe that the big green place sells it for any animal... but then again they are like that -.-
As a temp fix that is a very good solution and because the wheel is too small then he is better off without it for a little while rather than having one that could damage his spine.

Focus on getting the cage first and then look into getting him an 8" or 11" wheel. The minimum hight of the cage will need to be around 50cm just so that a big enough wheel will fit in and as others have mentioned the length and width of the cage should be around 80x50cm or more if you have the space for a bigger one. Look more towards rat cages rather than hamster ones as most shops sell laughable "Hamster Suitable" cages.

I have a few decent sized cages linked in my website - Bobtail Hamstery (linked below in my signature) but the housing section here on HC is a great place to start getting some ideas for the kind of cages you will want to be looking for

As for the nuggets for your robos I don't know many people who actually do feed nuggets and at the same time I don't know anyone who has had problems with one ham eating the better foods. To be honest in a decent food mix the majority of the food is great so it's not something to really be concerned about. Take a look at weaning them onto Harry Hamster or Burgees Hamster food - these are both great and have high nutritional value. I don't know the NV of nuggets but I'm sure you can find somewhere to compare them online

Your hammie is beautiful by the way

Thanks everyone

He's gone a little bit crazy because of the changes in his house. He gets like that every time I changed his cage. I'll put him in the ball for a while later on so he doesn't get too bored.

I think I'm gonna have to stop by Ikea tomorrow and make him a cage instead. Then off to pets at home for a new wheel, fingers cross they have a bigger size wheel for Vinny.

Hehe will do.

I also have another questions. Vinny chews his cage but not that much. However, almost every month he gets a cut on his nose. I get really worried =[

You can buy some spray to spray onto the bars (I think) I'm sure I read a post about it on here. it's just like the stuff you spray on your furniture when you've got a puppy and they chew stuff,it is pretty effective with pups and I imagine it'd be the same with hammies.
Does he chew 1 particular spot? If so mabe place a toy in front of the bars.
Hams can get obsessed with chewing cage bars so it's better to nip it in the bud ASAP xxx

Search bar chewing in the search bar, loads of useful advice around here

The main causes of bar chewing are frustration due to lack of appropriate wheel, or lack of space (not always the case) but if you make a bin cage anyways, only mesh the top of the bin, and there will be no bars in reach = problem solved

Hi i have just read this thread and tbh i would take it back (depending on if you have the receipt and how long ago you brought it) and complain that you were giving the wrong advice and mislead into buying it. When i got my syrian, harry, back in 2008 the assistant recommended the smallest cage in the shop. Being an idiot i crought it and soon realised it was completely wrong and within a week im marched back up there (with my angry mum in tow hehe) and complained and they gave me a full refund. I dont know how well that would work now but i would definitely complain to P@H about what they recommend to their customers! You should also mention the risk of the wire levels etc etc.

My friend gave me the same advise but I'm afraid I don't have the receipt any more. However, I bought the cage probably more or less a month ago so hopefully if I complain enough they might take it back? I was just disappointed at the fact that they even had it on the shelf that its suitable for syrian hamsters.

I'll try and update you guys in this thread later on if I ever manage to give the cage back and get a new one.
