Smile Gerbilarium(Also suitable for 1 syrian hamster)

Picture removed as no longer available. Please see P@H website for picture.

We originally had a cage, not too sure what the name of it was but Bella nibbled the cage the very first day and the bar pinged off! And it also took about 10 minutes to get the actual cage back onto the plastic bit because it didnt fit right and the doors didnt shut. But this one is really good. Its a Gerbilarium but its also suitable for a syrian hamster.

Price: £40
Purchased from: Pets at Home
Rating: 8/10
Accessories: Water bottle, food bowl, tunnel to bury under the sawdust so they can go under the sawdust.

Pro's:
Partly plastic so you can see the hamster easily.
Easy access. 2 doors and when you take the cage part off, they are not able to get out if you are filling up their food bowl ect.
Very secure.
Anti-Gnawing bars. Comes with food bowl which attaches onto the cage and comes with water bottle.
Choose how high you want the platforms.

Con's:
Quite small.
Ladders are a bit steep.
Not much space to put a wheel. (took a few adjustments to work out where to put one)
The tunnel isnt very wide so we have taken it out.
Apart from the bottom, it had no flat floor for them to walk on. (If that makes sense)

I feel that a lot of people on here, including me, hate gerbilariums. They are way too small for gerbils, let alone syrians.

The bar shelving can hurt a hamster's feet too.

Yeah i thought so as well. But we struggled to find a decent size cage for her as a quick replacement because she was breaking all the bars. The only pet shops we have here is a small pets at home with about 4 cages and a small jollys with a 1 floor cage. It was the best option

You need to put the img bbcode tags around it

The cage isn't suitable for a Syrian hamtser, or dwarf for that matter, as it's too small.

I don't hate gerbilariums, and I disagree with Demecat that most people here will hate them - they just wont like this particular one because it's too small. The shelves can easily (and must be because of the risk of injury and bumblefoot) covered before use. The larger one by P@H is still too small as well in my opinion and again the shelves would need to be covered.

There are better options for a lot less money out there

Make sure you cover the platform so that her feet don't get hurt and give her plenty of out of cage time. It's not a great cage but a lot of pet shops sell much worse ones and it does sound like it was the best one in there. Have you looked on ebay? You can fine some great cages on there and of course it's much cheaper than a pet shop

I was about to ask what would be suitable to cover the shelves with? I will be on the hunt for a new cage. Like I said before, it was the best option for a quick replacement as the only other ones they had was the really small 1 level hamster cages. Thank you for helping me!

if the worst comes to the worst and you need a temporary cage. A high sided plastic box works well. Just be sure to put nothing in it that a hamster can climb on to climb out of it!

I only like the big glass ones. to me, the plastic ones are just too light and easy to knock over.

And SS, that is your view.

Cardboard will do for covering them You can weave it through the bars, there's also mat things that you can get (again you weave them through).

She has plenty of out of the cage time. Bella loves her ball. If we take her out too soon, she sits staring at the door of the cage and then if we put her back in it, she's fine after! I am so glad i joined this forum!
