Default Penn Plax 4

I ended up getting a Penn Plax 4 level hamster cage, mostly b/c my daughter liked the way it looked and it was more spacious than the one we had. I hate it now... bear bites on the wires and the worst part is it's impossible to get him out without taking the top half of the cage apart. He won't let us pick him up yet -- he bites -- so it's a real pain to do this every day to get him into his ball. So I wouldn't recommend this cage.

Some pictures would be useful rozierfam.
We always find that a single level, easily accessable cage is far easier for taming a hamster.

No I tried and it came up with a load of SAM style american cages, not sure if that was the right thing or not?

But as Souffle says one big floor area with not tubes is best for taming, as they will run up the tubes to get away from you which isnt going to help at all!

That only has 3 levels, doesn't it? Still doesn't look like a good cage for taming.

Penn Plax 4 Level Hamster Cage: Compare Prices, View Price History and Read Reviews at NexTag

this is what it looks like. since Bear is still wary of us (he came from a previous owner) it's hard to get him to come out, he will bite if you try to pick him up.

That looks too small to me. I would get hime out of there and get him in somthing a bit bigger.

That cage looks tiny.
Is your hammy a syrian or a dwarf?

Although I really think either way the cage is unsuitable.
Its too small for a syrian.
And dwarfs wont be able to get up that tube

Could you get a zoo zone type cage instead? That would be alot better.
