I *think* it's this cage I've got for my little Syrian Hjalmar... as below:
Except the water bottle is at the bottom beside the wheel and not at the top. Also, the plastic things on the side are not on this model, it's just pure wire. I think it's the next version of the above model.
I have to say that Hjalmar loves this cage! He's only small at the moment so he gets around the tubes easily, he has enough room to potter about in and he especially loves the petting zone at the top where he sleeps and hoards most of his food.
*However* I have made a number of changes to the cage. I have taken out the very top level as I consider it too high and it renders the level below it pretty useless as you can't really put anything on it. Instead there are just two levels, both at an OK height. I've also added the bus extension as below:
to the side of the cage, giving him some extra room to burrow and also to get food and drink if he doesn't want to use the locations in his cage. In the cage itself he has quite deep bedding, a chew cube, a mineral stone (which he often sits on), his wheel, and a sandbox beside the wheel. The wheel is a tad noisy but for a small Syrian it is big enough - I'm getting a silent spinner on saturday though.
I am further altering the cage in anticipation of Hjalmar growing bigger. I've bought a storage bin and am going to make it into a cage, and will then attach his crittertrail cage to the bin cage, so he'll have plenty of room. It will take the place of the little bus that sits on the side at the moment. I'll probably move the chew cube into the bin cage so that he has more room to run around on the crittertrail cage floor.
Overall I think this cage is alright with a few adjustments when a syrian is still quite small. I think it does need to be expanded eventually but this can
be done either through adding a bin cage or numerous crittertrail accessories. Hjalmar hasn't hurt himself at all in his cage and there's plenty of burrowing space for him. The petting zone is also very handy.
In terms of cleaning the cage, I personally have found it to be okay. Unclipping the platforms is easy, the petting zone is detachable, and otherwise you just have the base itself to clean. I'm not sure why there are so many reviews saying it's difficult to clean! It takes a little bit of time but it's certainly not awkward.
Anyway, just thought i'd add my opinion as an owner of this cage just in case anybody was thinking of buying it but put off by the negativity that surrounds the cage. For a young Syrian it's fine, but be prepared to expand it as your hammy grows or it may get a bit cramped. I can't comment on its suitability for other hammy species as I've only used it for a Syrian!
