Hello folks, Long time no talky talk. Here's a review of the gerbilarium in which my current hamster is incarcerated.
Basics - a translucent green plexiglass tank with a cage topper coated in blue above.
Dimensions of topper 26 ins x 14 ins x 10 ins high.
Dimensions of base ( and here's the rub 21 ins x 10 ins x 10 ins high. The base slopes at an angle upto the topper so there isn't that much space in the base. Would have been better if the sides were straight down.
Has a barred platform witha 'bridge' and a ladder all in a vomitworthy orange colour which clips into the cage topper.
Accessories - tubing, a stainless steel food dish and holder and a water bottle which doesn't drip.
Large cage door for a change that you can get both hands in.
The current furry bullet seems quite happy with the levels and a large wheel can be put in as the platform effort in vomitworthy orange! can be moved to the front of the cage.
One con is the depth from the platform in vomitworthy orange! to the base is 10 inches and may be quite a drop for a non bouncy hamster so its best to cover the platform in vomitworthy orange! with cardboard or similar material right across the width. The silly bridge doesn't make it convenient.
On the plus side its quite well made but care needs to be taken with the tank as it is quite easy to crack it. Also the floor covering isn't kicked out all over the floor so little hammy can dig away to his hearts content without incurring my wrath! The cage top does allow things to be hung on and tubes can be attached to the sides. There are some that have been done.
One problem, as with all tanks, is the build of that delightful ammonia smell due to lack of air circulation. Did i mention the vomitworthy orange platform? It is truly horrible....
Is it worth the asking price of £84 - £130. No, not really. I got mine cheap from zoopetcare on ebay for about £15 as there were one or two cracks in the tank and a bit chipped off which haven't allowed the latest convict to escape.
On the whole very satisfied with it and it is fairly easy to clean in about 20 mins.
There is a picture of the current setup in the gallery.
