Question about black/light grey hamsters

Hi!

I’m a geneticist, and the color genetics of hamsters are so fun but I don’t want to breed unethically, so I’m making a hamster breeding simulator! I’ve gotten all the colors described in Hamsterlopedia, as well as the major sites (river Road hamstery, holmden hills hamstery, several weebly sites, etc.), but I still have some questions about genetic combos.

Does anyone have a hamster that is black (aa) and light grey (Lglg)? Does this make a dingy black like aadgdg, or is the color different? If you don’t have a black/light grey hamster, do you have other anecdotal examples of Lg mixing with other black-based colors? I know cream + light grey = ivory, but I’m looking for more examples of light grey mixes. Thanks!

Hi there - The Light grey gene in Syrian hamsters is now thought to be extinct. It was always a fragile gene and the LgLg combination is lethal.
With the rise of the very dominant, robust Silver grey gene many people are thinking they have light grey however the animal in breeding turns out to be silver grey or a silvery grey mix. With the combination gene colours they usually have silver or dark grey. All the ivories seem to be silver or dark grey based.
I've never seen a true light grey in all my time showing and judging.
UK is looking to remove light from the colour standards.
