No it’s totally okay and I knew I would get this response and I’m okay with it. I would be the same way. I want them to have healthy and quality lives all of my hamsters. Oh and I’m not just breeding because my family and friends want baby hamsters if that was the case I would just tell them to go buy there own from a reputable breeder around the valley. I am breeding because it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. Coat patterns interest me as well. All my hamsters are Syrian so definitely not breeding different types of hamsters that’s never a good thing like you have said. I do have to admit yes there are some things I do not know about I am not 100% educated on everything. But I’m doing my best to provide the absolute best love and care they need. They are going to be 1 week old tomorrow. Yes I have heard some squeaking coming from the nest. The bedding is Aspen. Yes I took the wheel out at 13 days. She had the babies at 18 days. Oh and I won’t clean the cage until at least they are a month old.

All sounds like it's going well then. Apologies about the bedding comment - I just saw someone else mention it looked line pine . I expect you'll be seeing babies emerging from the nest soon then. Main thing is not to stress Mum so she feels they are threatened at all. She will do a good job feeding them and looking after them and just let her do her bit for now.

In a week or so it should be easier!

I rescue and rehome sometimes and don't agree with breeding but that's my view and yours is different which is something i reluctantly accept. Where i live there are so many hobby breeders and worse, backyard breeders who breed for money.

I have heard that hamsters shouldn't have more than three litters. I don't know how many times you intend to breed your hamsters and it's none of my business what you do but keep in mind that you could end up looking for a lot of suitable forever homes for your hamsters.

Maybe more suitable people are looking for hamsters where you live but here it can take weeks or even months to rehome a hamster. The majority of people who want to adopt are not suitable because their cages are too small or they lack good hamster care knowledge.

In the end the hamsters you chose to breed are your responsibility and you need to have the space and money to possibly accommodate a large number of them.

Vet bills don't come cheap either.

I’m glad you have good motivation with it at least and do care for the welfare of the hammies. Like I said I didn’t mean to sound blunt just there are some people who do breed for the sake of having babies and not really know what to do for the babies.

I’m also super happy to hear everything is coming along well. I would say if you were to breed anymore to make sure you do have 100% knowledge in it. If there’s any uncertainties make yourself know the answers well, as Ria said you’d need to look for health issues as well and know what to look for and have a vet fund put aside. I agree that three sounds like a reasonable maximum because the stress and health risks for the mother are too great to do too many times. She’d want to retire and live her life too.

Hope everything continues to go well but please do more research if you was to breed again, your intentions seem in the right place but just learn the risks for you and the hamsters so nothing is a surprise.
