Re: When is it safe to look at baby hamsters?
I would put out some porridge and tiny chopped veg it they are coming out. People use cupcake / cake cases for that as it's easily disposed off but we use low dolls plates!

Re: When is it safe to look at baby hamsters?
the babies are 15 days old now and they are enjoying porridge and chopped carrot and pepper. they didn't like Courgette, but love clover. There are 3 darkish banded ones with brown around the eyes and 3 light brown marbled ones. Peach is still being very protective so i don't think its time for a photo shoot yet. Peach is quite an orangey colour with light brown cheek flashes and a light grey undercoat. I wonder if she is carrying a yellow gene as one of her babies looks a bit tortie.

Re: When is it safe to look at baby hamsters?
I remember when Hamper had a litter with my little brother's hamster, Hammy. We didn't know a lot about breeding, so we waited until they were fully fledged hamsters to interact. Now my sisters have hammies of their own, all of them being from the litter!

Re: When is it safe to look at baby hamsters?
The largest baby has been going on a rampage attacking all the others including mum, so I've had to put her in another cage. I hope she'll be ok.

I think she will be OK as she is not far short of 4 weeks now. Just make sure she has plenty bedding and gets the usual baby extras to keep her growing well.

Thanks Soufflé, she certainly looks big enough to be out on her own.
