Confusion with white genes....
I have a BEW (with mottled ears) that has phenominal temperament, size, and type. She's from unknown background though. I was told she 'has' to be cream banded dom spot -or- cream roan.
Well, I bred her to a black, and out of 16 pups they produced 12 (++) and 4 BEW (ears appear flesh still, but I'm not sure yet since they're still pups.) None are Ba, Ds, or Wh..except maybe the 4 BEW. Can they be though? When none of the ++ are marked? If mom was BaDs or Wh as I was told, she should have thrown patterned pups.
If she was eeBaDs or eeWh and dad is aaEe, could that explain the 4 BEW (eeBaDs or eeWh as mom) but 12 ++ pups with no pattern?

Doesn't Wh roan only show significant effect on ee hamsters?

Re: Confusion with white genes....
BEW can also be the Silver Gray Gene + the Cream gene. How old are the pups? Golden pups and Silver Gray pups tend to look a lot alike when very young till when full coats start filling in where the Golden coat becomes a Gray coat. Mottled is when there is a obvious spot of dark pigment on a flesh pigment ear many see a dark ear with a light pink at the base and think that is Mottled. If you have a Photo of Mom before she had the litter we may be able to say more. The Wh gene will not be as obvious on any color which isn't Cream or cream based so the many Golden/Gray pups may very well be Wh and you not see it as easily.
Good times ahead for you and your litter.

Re: Confusion with white genes....
It would be very helpful to see some photos.
Mum's mottled ears indicate some sort of pattern. Uniceros is correct, that roan won't really make any effect on colours that aren't cream based. Do the goldens have substantial belly white?
