Haha, she is! She's not too happy they're out and about though. Poor girl!
The pups opened their wee eyes last night so had their first handling and weighing session last night. I properly sexed them and now have ways to tell them apart.
Lavender is a golden tortoiseshell with minimal markings. She's very sweet.
Liquorice (oops can't spell) is the better marked black tortoiseshell.
Lager is a black male who has a white splotch on his forehead. I do believe he is carrying recessive dappled. I'm going to be running tummy shots of all the pups past Janice from Holmden Hill Haven to double check my assumptions. Given I haven't worked with recessive dappled before, I want to make sure I'm correct. He's my favourite of the black boys, and will go on breeding contract.
Lollipop is a very spotty golden tort girl. She was quite interested in the carrot (not all were).
Lipton had some porridge stuck to his head, so he was a bit bashful. I also believe he carries for recessive dappled.
Lasagna is a golden tort, however you wouldn't know it by looking at her. She has some small patch on her, and the only reason I'm positive she's a tort is because her dad is melanistic yellow. She's sweet though.
Lentil is another black male pup. He is the biggest pup and very sweet.
Leftovers is a black tortoiseshell pup that reminds me a lot of her great grandmother, Cady in appearance. She's a sweetie!
Lemonade is another golden tort who was the best marked of the goldens. She's a sweetheart, who has a really huge patch on her shoulder.
Last but not least, my favourite pups of the litter! These are the het-EDs. We had a feeling that Starbuck's mother carried for DEW as opposed to ED based on the litters she produced with a Het-ED male. This proves it!
Lindt is a Het-ED golden male who will be staying here; with ED being so scarce, I'm happy for him to stay here at SBH, and hope he develops as nicely as his mother. Just in case, all his brothers are going out on breeding contract.
The three girls don't have "permanent" names because I'm not sure which girl I'd like to keep. I want them to grow on some so I can select the best temperament and type. So until then, I've given them cutesy names so I'm not just calling them "Het-ED Black Torts".
Earsies is a het-ED black tort with a big tort patch on her left ear. She was incredibly sweet and groomed happily in my hand, pushing her up in the "must keep" pile.
Cheeker is also het-ED black tort and has a patch on her, you guessed it, cheek! She was a bit more camera shy, but is also a bit bigger than her sister.
Dot is my favourite of the three, only because she has a big black dot on her forehead. She's spunky but very sweet too.
Overall, Starbuck did a great job tending to 13 pups. We didn't lose any, and there are no visible runts. They're all sweet and were pretty good with their first handling. I'm excited to get to know them more and choose the female who will be staying here!
