It may come to that, but we live in a rural area and it would be a drive to a vet that sees hamsters! I was thinking the little pet store in town might have a hamster enthusiast. Or maybe my son will come over and help me. He won't be able to sex them, but he may be able to flip them and hold their tops while I hold their bottoms. The part you're trying to see is the part they wiggle the most!

You could get them to walk into a clear jar with a treat and try to look then.

These aren't perfect photos but may help you sex your pups a little easier.

These are photos of Hybrid Dwarf pups at 4 weeks old.
Females will have two obvious nipples and a less obvious scent gland
Sexing Juvenile female Dwarf.JPG

Males will lack nipples and the scent gland will be much more pronounced
Sexing Juvenile Male Dwarf.JPG

The females openings will be much closer together having very little distance between the two openings, while the male will have a much farther apart space which you can almost place a pinky finger between.

They need to be gender split by 4 weeks to assure no more litters.

Those are great photos. Thanks! And will try the glass thing. Gosh, I only have a few days to figure this out!

Maybe have them all on one cage and put the ones you sex into the other cage so you know which ones you've sexed.

Yes, when they are ready to be separated I will do that. Probably this weekend. I think the shy male will be happier. He is even afraid of his siblings. He wants to take a treat from me. His siblings try to steal it from him and he ducks back into his hut to get away from them. He will do better if he has less commotion.

I read somewhere that when sexing if you are unsure you are better to put the pup into the males that you think you have confirmed as if the pup is a female then you only have one pregnant female as opposed to one male in with all the females and lots of pregnancies.

Ah, good idea. I never thought of that!

You can pick them up by the scruff behind their neck, try to secure their head by picking up scruff nearest head, then turn them over, you can use a wash cloth to grip the scruff
