Grey and yellow Syrian hamsters
I have a few questions regarding Syrian hamsters who are the same colouring as, Darcy, or similar. I hope some breeders will answer my questions! Are greys somehow connected to yellows? Would you say that their behaviours and personalities have similarities? What are the major differences between the two you have found apart from colouring? What are/were your experiences like? I have never had a hamster like, Darcy, berfore! I would say that she is a very expressive hamster especially when she is stressed or upset and I have also noticed that everything she does is typical of a yellow.

re: Grey and yellow Syrian hamsters
Greys and yellow are completely different genes so they're not related. Darcy might have been from a yellow litter which makes her act that way. Myrcella and Winston act like yellows but they're not (Well I know Myrcella is 100% not related to a yellow). The greys I have seen and heard about are quite placid and laid back.

Re: Grey and yellow Syrian hamsters
Do you have a picture of Darcy? Grey plus yellow gives you smoke pearl so could she be a yellow in disguise? Torts can go hidden if their patches aren't obvious or very small. I had a black banded girl who, according to her genotype, was tort but she must have had a single yellow hair as I couldn't find any!
Some Syrian girls with no yellow in can shout like a yellow though so it may have nothing to do with her colour and just be her nature

Re: Grey and yellow Syrian hamsters
Thanks you both for your informative replies! I've been told she is a silver grey banded.

Re: Grey and yellow Syrian hamsters
That's an interesting colour. She isn't silver grey to my eye but yes is banded and looks satin? I'm not great with my yellow greys/smoke pearls but she has the hint of yellow about her. I wonder if someone who has had pearls would be better able to recognise the colour.
I breed silvers and even taking into account any age related browning she's def not just silver on it's own.
