First time breeder

So. I have a dark brown male hamster about 4 months old. and my friend has a female hamster that is white with brown patches. shes about 2 years old. We have been doing alot of research on breeding them cause they both are very amazing in color and we got them from a very amazing breeder. they are both very healthy. we wont be breeding them for about a month cause we want to be prepared. I need to know as much as possible before i can breed them. They have never met and ive introduced hamsters before so im usuing the same method ive always used. My hamster the male is bullet and the female is button. Bullet just got over a little incedent that happened about a week ago. He got scratched by a cat through the bars of the cage. hes been acting completely normal and hes healing fine. His eye keeps crusting over. but it is going away now and hes going back to normal.

Absolutely not!! Your female is much, much to old and you should not even think about putting her near a male. She is nearing the end of her lifespan now sadly. Females are bred between around 4 and 8 months.
You must do lots more research and go to some shows so you know about genetics and care. It does not sound as if you have a safe environment to keep babies if a cat can access them. Enjoy them as pets for now and give them the best lives you can. Forget breeding!!

Agreeing with souffle here! Two years old is far too old for a female to have a litter, plus you need to have more knowledge of colours and genetics before you even think about breeding, as there are some genes that are very bad when mixed together. A "dark brown" hamster and a "white with brown patches" hamster could be anything really, there are a number of different colours that I have heard called "brown" by people that don't know the official names.

Plus while cats and hamsters can be in the same household, if the cat is able to get at the hamsters to do some damage, that is certainly not a good place to try and raise baby hamsters in.

Also you say you've introduced other hamsters before -- were they Syrians or dwarfs? Do you know the species of your current hamsters, are they Syrians? Syrians are strictly solitary and must never be introduced except for short periods of time when the female is in heat for breeding purposes.

I agree with all of the above, just because they come from breeders doesn't mean they have good healthy lines. You got no idea if they are pedigree, you got no certificates to say about their blood lines, genetics, health, and official colours. The female is also two years old, as the others have said this is too old for her to be breeding. Even if you did ignore the advice given, she would most likely be unable to conceive in the first place due to age.

Cats would be able to hook babies out through the cage bars if they're close enough to said bars.

If your hamster is getting crusty eyes they need to be checked by a vet, in case there is an eye infection or it could be a sign your hamster is very sick.

I also agree. If you've got pedigree hamsters from a reputable breeder, you get given a pedigree that shows the ancestory and colours that are carried by your hamster, they will also detail the correct colour of your hamster, for example Sable, Chocolate (both could be seen as brown by people who don't know their hamster colours) so this makes me think they're not pedigree.
I agree with everyone above. Research, research, research and then research some more! I researched for over a year before my first litter earlier this year and was also in regular contact with another breeder who mentored me a lot and helped me with anything I wasn't sure on. There is so so much more to take into account when breeding than you could possibly imagine and it is a lot of work and costly as well.
Enjoy them as pets, work on securing an area that your cat can't access, talk to breeders, do independent research. There's no rush to breed. Better to take the time to know what you're doing than rush into it and potentially have something go drastically wrong.
