Default J-15 Litter has arrived

I bred Samika My SH Black Tort from the SBH Amaretto X Swiss Miss Litter
to Jancsi My LH Black Band boy from my ST's Kiley X Lizina Litter September 13th. This breeding is my 1st to produce a 2nd Chocolate generation litter.

I expect Black, Chocolate, Mel Yellow, and Yellow Chocolate Males, and Black,Chocolate, and Black Tort, and Chocolate tort females all with and without Bands.

Pups arrived just slightly early being due early morning on the 29th but instead arrived at or around 10PM on the 28th. Another mom with and open nest and I can see lots of pink jelly beans and all with dark eyes so no Cinnamon in this bunch. Impossible to count but there is at least 10 or more pups. Samika is being an awesome mom only coming off the nest for food treats and a drink of water.

I am on a FB group that has many wonderful and very knowledged breeders and I have now got solid advice that all the Chocolates I received back in April are indeed Polywhite/White bellow-White speckled so this litter will be very interesting as the Wh(p) or BsBs gene in other countries when combined with the band gene often produces a hamster who looks amazingly like a Banded Dominant Spot. Will be very exciting to find out if Jancsi is a Wh(p) carrier or not as his Dam was Wh(p) but his sire wasn't, and Samika has the big white belly spots on her belly which is known as a good indicator she is Polywhite herself.

Here's the Sire Jancsi:

and the Dam Samika:

Pups will be either kept by me or Erin or offered to fellow breeders or pet homes when weaned.

Both are just beautiful Nancy. I am looking forward to seeing the pups once their eyes open. It's so exciting to see our members working so hard to get good lines established. One of these days I will have a breeder hammy!

For me too, They should begin to pigment up so I will be able to see Bands and Tort patches tonight or tomorrow. They are never not nursing and Samika stays on the nest almost all the time being and excellent Mother.

Well the pups are now a week old and though interesting they are a bit of a disappointment as for Torts and Yellows. Reason being it turns out both Samika and Jancsi both carry for Cream. Cream of course mask black as well as Yellow. There's 11 pups in all and I DO have 2 Chocolate Band pups 1 Ee Black Tort Band, 2 little Cream things which have black ears which shows they are not Ghost Yellow chocolates, but Ghost Yellowblacks(one is a much darker shade of cream then the other so may mean one carries for Rust and one doesn't, I have 1 Possible Caramel Band, Though at 7 days it may be BEC Band since the ears don't darken this early and age, 3 Blacks, 1 Black Band, 1 Very dark Mel Yellow. Since there is no way to know which of the Non Rust color pups carries the rust gene only pups who will be considered to stay will be for sure Rust colored pups. The others will be re-homed to Breeders or pet homes when ready.

Oh it also appears one parent is not Polywhite as there is no blazes or odd extra white on their bodies, but some may be heterogeneous for the gene and have large belly white, but have to wait till I can handle them to find that out. About one more week before I can share photos with you all.

Sorry they disappoint Nancy. I know how hard you all work trying to develop nice lines. I will wait patiently for the debut.

Cream with black ears sounds lovely to me
Sorry they were not what you were looking for. You did learn some useful info for future though I hope.

Be alert as of late late Saturday night 10/10/15(hey that's one date that reads the same in USA and UK LOL) I had little peepers squinting in the light. That of course means eyes should be wide open by Monday to finally introduce the whole gang of 1 Black Band, 1 Ee Black Tort Band, 2 Blacks, 1 Brindled Black Tort, 1 ee Yellow/Yellowblack(Cream masking Both Yellow and Black), 1 Ee Yellowblack(carries for Cream), 1 EE Yellowblack(Yeah no cream gene), 1 BEC Band(yes he now has black mottled ears), and 2 Chocolate Band(conveniently 1 Male, and 1 Female)

Since eyes were open but not wide enough to see on camera I did get my first cuddle while Mom stuffed her pouches full with Noms. Both Chocolate Bands will be staying as well as the EE YB who will need to be tested to a Chocolate mate to find out if he inherited the Rust gene from one of his parents.

The sad news is the sire of this litter passed away suddenly from a fast growing tumor on his skull which the vet believes is Cancer related because it grew huge within 48 hours. At first she thought it might be a major sinus infection but it grew so fast by about 16 hours he was in extreme stress from the tumor closing up his nasal passages. So I opted to help him be at peace instead of suffering by suffication.

RIP Jancsi, The vet does NOT feel this was a genetic related cancer so it is safe to use his pups for future breedings.
