Default Dark eared whites?

Hey everyone, I really like dark eared white hamsters (syrians) and would like to breed them, I breed gerbils for my local pet shop and whould love to start with hamsters but I want to make sure I know EXACTLY what I am doing first before I even attempt this, as I said before, I would like to breed some dark eared whites but I don't quite know how to go about it, I have heard that breeding two dark eared whites together can be dangerous so I don't really know what to do, any help would be greatly appreciated x

White to white is fine as long as you have a pedigree with a decent number of generations. The gene you are thinking of is Wh (white-bellied or the Roan gene), if a hamster is homozygous it will be an eyeless white. If you check the pedigree and see any roans then you should not use that hamster to breed self colours, if the hamster has no pedigree then it is not worth risking that mating. Genetically, DEW are cdcd (REW ppcdcd - that is the "albino" gene plus cinnamon).
