Default Meet Lucky

I would like to introduce everyone to my C15 only surviving pup. Due to the lose of his siblings I have named him Lucky.
Lucky's dame is a banded dove tort, named Lesham, that I have here that was originally with Nancy at ST's Hamstery. His sire is a satin banded cream named Mickey.
Lesham gave birth on April 18th to a nest full of pinkies. By the 19th, when i went to feed her, there were only 3 pups left in the nest. Over the next week or so the pups started to get their pigment, there was 2 blank banded pups, a boy and a girl, and one teeny tiny satin banded golden, obviously the runt he was a third the size of the other two. A few days later the black banded female disappeared. By this time they were all out and about so it was a very sad time when I no longer saw her. The tiny little golden was still alive but was not nearly as strong as his brother. I assume this is why a few days later he also disappeared.
At about 3 weeks old I heard a loud noise coming from the hamster room. I raced in to find Lesham was chasing, and knocking down the remaining pup. I quickly scooped her out with the ball, rubbed my hand in the bedding so I would not transfer my smell, and I checked the pup over. Other then having peed all over himself he looked ok. I really did not want to remove him at such an early age, especially since he had no siblings to play with and learn from, but decided I would put them on 24 hr watch and if any signs of trouble I would remove him. Thank goodness someone in my house is always awake!
Last night Lesham turned on him again, he let out a scream but I was there within seconds. So I put him in his new bin, which I had ready to go. He seems to be happy in it but it makes me a little sad for him because I know he loved playing with momma and snuggling up with her. I know he will be fine in a few days, and is getting plenty of love and will for the rest of his life because of course he is staying here
Please say hello to Lucky, obvious name for him don't you think
Oh and Lesham has been taken out of the breeding program here as I think she may have attacked her pups for no reason
as a bonus, and because I didn't have time to do a thread about my B15 litter, i will add a pic of them.

He is certainly a lucky wee chap, especially to have you watching over him. He is a sweetie and I am sure he'll be a very special fluff, getting lots of extra attention due to his circumstance. I am glad that you were able to scoop him up and therefore have one pup from the litter.

Isn't he lovely! I do so love black and whites. They always make me think of my Patches. That is really a shame that his siblings didn't make it. Some Mama hams don't do so well with pups. It's good to take her off the breeding list. His name suits him for sure. Good job keeping an eye on him. He should be fine at this point since he has started eating and drinking on his own. The ideal is to keep them with mom for 4 weeks, but certainly not at the risk of his life. He must have been terrified.

You know they went back and forth. She would be a wonderful mom at all times until that one moment where she would snap for a minute. If I removed her and let her run off some energy in the ball she would be fine again. Of course it made this whole process even harder because I realized she did not want me touching him at all. So he has not been socialized yet, but does at least know my voice. I believe is missing his mum, as he kind of cries and looks around. but is not used to me touching him so everything is so much scarier I was glad he is just shy of 4 weeks I like them to stay with their siblings for a week or a little more after which obviously can't happen. I am glad he is big and healthy, I have seen him eat and drink so her will be just fine

You know Erin by two of Three Photos I think he may be satin. I am sorry LeSham was so bad a Mom but boy Lucky has a very good Type and that head is to drool for.

If any are puzzled why we deliberately bred a BEC to a Tort it was to test Mickey to see if he carries for Cinnamon. We weren't aware he had a bonus gene of Black carried until this litter. Mickey can now be used with the Chocolate girls to bring in the Banded gene as well as the Satin coat gene to the Chocolate lines. I can't wait to see a Satin Chocolate Band, or even better a Satin Chocolate Tort Band.

She also didn't tell anyone about her wonderful sire of her B15 litter which was Sammy who sired the litter at 2 years+ a few Months old. The Dam of her B15 litter was Cima who originally went there to just be bred and returned to me BUT the whole family fell under Cima's cuteness spell and so it was arranged she stay with them forever and I collected the pups she didn't decide to keep to continue on Sammy's outstanding qualities and longevity. Cima is a litter sister to Hekomi's girl Chia may she RIP.

We were planning to use Sammy one more time to Swissy or one of her other Chocolate girls, however age has finally caught up and Sammy is slowing down to the point we feel it not in his best interest to use. Originally using just Photographs I thought Sammy was a Mel Yellow Band, but it turned out he is a very, very light Sable Band as was proven by his first and probably only litter as all were Cream colors(BEC and Sables), or Umbrous Goldens and Umbrous Golden Torts carrying Cream. This taught me to not go by Photos as they can deceive you. However this mating proved Sammy is Cinnamon free and Erin will decide if Sammy perks up wither to use him or not keeping his health and welfare 1st.
