Puppies! Including Chinese puppies!
I'm so thrilled that I have pups here in the Vectis household, after a bit of a dry spell over winter when my girls went on strike.
My first litter, which was born over a week ago, is called the Esburs. Mum is Esmerelda Margaret Note Spelling, a normal Chinese, and dad is Bursar, also a normal Chinese. They were born three days earlier than I expected and have been well tucked away by mum. Now they are getting bigger the nest is opening onto the base of the bin cage so I got my first peek of the furry cuties - at least three I can't wait for eyes to open.
My second litter, the Baccels, was born overnight last night. Mum is Celtica, a long haired dark grey Syrian, and dad is Baltic, a short haired satin golden. When Celti came out for dinner there was a big pile of pinkies under her wooden bridge, a much more sensible place than she had planned. Miss Celti had an adventure at the weekend when she chewed through the base of her cage and wandered into the living room to hunt out a different home. My Rogue-dog failed to notice her, so it's just as well I'm well tuned in to hamster noises in the wrong place!
And last, but not least, my Champion Ningwood, a dom spot Chinese girl, is on holiday with another breeder. I heard today that she had given birth to her long-awaited litter to a black-eyed white husband.
I'm in puppy paradise!

Re: Puppies! Including Chinese puppies!
Ahhhh how exciting! I love how your girlies went on strike. We haven't started back up again here yet, though Pekoe had a litter over the winter. We may expect a litter in a month or so, we'll see.
I love Esmerelda Margaret Note Spelling's name - I always giggle everytime. I can't wait to see their gorgeous pups. I remember you saying you needed more normals? I can't remember the conversation.
Celtica is gorgeous - I love seeing her pictures. Their pups will be stunning as well. I'm glad you managed to find her! Hopefully your pup is friendly with the hammies.
Quite a lot of excitement! I will be excited to see them once eyes open.

Ooh lovely, Vectis babies! Looking forward to pictures! Am I correct in thinking that Baltic carries for dark grey so we'll be seeing more beautiful long hair greys?

I think it was seeing pictures of your Celtica that made me want a dark grey. And I have a sort of approximation of that in pet shop Cleo..... But anyway I'm very excited to see the progress of your pups!

Baltic does indeed carry dark grey and has had dark grey children in his first litter. I had hoped to find a different male for Celti to introduce more genetic diversity into my Syrians, but circumstances conspired against me and time ticks on for Celti so I had to use one of my own boys not a borrowed boy (who I hope will still be coming when possible, but to play with a different girl!).

My normals are named after Discworld characters so I can't take the credit for the names (and it is why I have a Chair of Oblique Frogs aka Froggie). I am in need of normal females - I have some lovely normal boys but got a bit stuck with no-one to mate them with! I have acquired (through purchasing and borrowing) three girls so I hope for two more normal litters in the near future, though Morrigan has been reluctant to be a mum despite being offered a variety of ham-husbands. She's on her last attempt with me before going back to her owner.

Ahhhh, gotcha! How exciting. I love the names. I wonder if we'll eventually theme names more by pattern/colour though most of ours are the same (sticking to banded, and we only have black, golden and yellow up here, not including recessive creams or cinnamons).
Ahhhh what a shame about Morrigan (she has a lovely name!). I hope she decided motherhood is more her thing.

Re: Puppies! Including Chinese puppies!
That's fantastic news.
Baby hamsters are always cute and some of the babies I've seen on your site in the past have simply been adorable.
